**** NOTE FROM THE CHIEF'S DESK ****
A MILESTONE FOR ELDRIDGE ELDRIDGE PD
I want to take a moment to congratulate the entire Eldridge Police Department on achieving accreditation through the Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP).
This is a significant accomplishment for our department and, more importantly, for the community we serve. This marks the first accreditation in the history of the Eldridge Police Department, and it represents an incredible amount of work, dedication, and professionalism by our entire department.
Accreditation is about much more than receiving a certificate or recognition. It is about holding ourselves accountable to a higher standard and demonstrating that we are committed to providing professional, consistent, and effective law enforcement services to the citizens of Eldridge.
Throughout this process, we voluntarily opened our department to an outside perspective. We allowed trained evaluators to examine our policies, procedures, practices, documentation, training, and operations. We asked them to look closely at what we do and determine whether we could demonstrate that our department is operating in accordance with established professional standards and recognized best practices.
That process is not always easy.
It takes confidence and professionalism to invite outside individuals into your organization and allow them to identify areas where you can improve. It requires a willingness to hear constructive criticism, make changes when necessary, and prove not simply say that we are doing things the right way.
That is exactly what our officers and supervisors did.
Accreditation gave us an opportunity to look critically at our department, recognize the things we have been doing well, identify areas where we can improve, and ensure that our policies and practices are supported by sound professional standards. It also provides a framework for continued improvement. Accreditation is not the finish line; it is a commitment to continue evaluating ourselves and looking for ways to become better.
I could not be more proud of the men and women of the Eldridge Police Department. Their professionalism, dedication, and willingness to embrace this process are what made this accomplishment possible. Every officer and civilian employee played a role in demonstrating that the work we do each day is consistent with the standards we have established for ourselves.
I am equally proud of our supervisors. Strong
leadership is essential to maintaining professional standards, and our supervisors have demonstrated their commitment to ensuring our officers have the guidance, training, resources, and accountability necessary to perform their jobs at the highest level.
I especially want to recognize Officer Garrett Jahns, our Accreditation Manager, for the outstanding work he put into this process. Garrett took on an enormous responsibility and demonstrated exceptional attention to detail, organization, persistence, and professionalism throughout the accreditation process.
Most importantly, this accomplishment should give the citizens of Eldridge confidence in their police department. Our community can be assured that the men and women of the Eldridge Police Department are committed to professional policing, accountability, continuous improvement, and following recognized best practices in the performance of their duties.
We will not simply celebrate accreditation and move on. We will use it as a foundation for the future.
As Chief of Police, I am extremely proud of what our department has accomplished. I am proud of our officers. I am proud of our supervisors. I am proud that, for the first time in the history of the Eldridge Police Department, we can say that our department has successfully completed the accreditation process.
Congratulations to the entire Eldridge Police Department on this historic accomplishment.
This achievement belongs to all of you.
Award Presentation will take place at a future council meeting and at the Iowa Police Chiefs Association annual conference in May 2027.
