This past weekend, BTCESD1 personnel attended Heavy Vehicle Rescue training to strengthen their skills and prepare for the serious motor vehicle collisions we experience throughout our district. When lives are on the line, training, teamwork, and preparation make the difference.

Train hard. Respond ready. Serve our communities.

BTCESD1 Welcomes Our Newest Team Members!

BTCESD1 is proud to welcome 2 new Lieutenants and 6 new Firefighters following a competitive hiring process that began with 100 applications and 45 candidates invited to test. This marks the largest group ever hired at one time in BTCESD1 history!

The six firefighter positions are newly created to increase daily staffing and support three-person engine companies.

Over the past week, our newest members completed new-hire orientation, including uniforms and PPE issuance, department policies and procedures, and firefighting skills, preparing them to begin 48-hour shift assignments next week.

We are excited to welcome these members to the BTCESD1 family as we continue investing in our personnel and strengthening service to our communities!

As part of the Capital Area Wildfire Academy, students will be participating in a Prescribed Burn today (10/8/26) on Camp Swift at 1pm. Smoke may be visible from Hwy 290.

🔥Prescribed Fire Notice🔥

Texas A&M Forest Service personnel will be conducting prescribed fires at Camp Swift near Bastrop as part of the Texas Interagency Wildfire Academy. Prescribed fire is the planned application of low-intensity fire to the landscape by fire and fuel specialists to maintain healthy, resilient landscapes.

Agency firefighters plan to burn portions of Unit 7 during two training sessions scheduled for Oct. 7-8 and Oct. 13-14. Burning will occur on one day during each session, depending on weather and conditions Unit 7 consists of 234 acres and will be divided into north and south sections, with one section planned for each session.

These burns are designed to meet multiple land management objectives, including reducing hazardous fuel loading, managing understories, improving wildlife habitat, improving range management, and serving as a public demonstration.

These burns provide fire personnel working on various qualifications the opportunity to train under a planned environment. The burns at Camp Swift also serve as field exercises for S-219, Firing Operations, courses held during the academy.

Each prescribed burn unit has defined weather parameters and firing patterns to ensure that the objectives are met and conducted safely. Texas A&M Forest Service personnel will monitor all prescribed burns to evaluate achievement of goals and help guide future prescriptions.

Nearby residents may see smoke during ignition operations, but it should have no impact on nearby roadways. These effects will be mitigated by conducting the burns on days with good ventilation so that smoke will be dispersed away from communities.
