Barrington Area Democratic Organization

There is so much more that unites us than divides us. Sometimes, we just need to make room at the table.

At a time when hate crimes, Islamophobia, and division are deeply concerning, we believe that sharing stories, listening to one another, and finding common ground matter more than ever.

Join Barrington Area Democrats for a FREE screening of A Seat at the Table, a documentary featuring Illinois State Representative Nabeela Syed (District 51), followed by a short community discussion.

Whether you're familiar with Nabeela's story or hearing it for the first time, we invite you to join us for an evening of learning, conversation, and connection.

Friday, October 30th
Barrington Area Library

6:45–8:30 PM | Documentary Screening

Well, that didn’t take long.

On October 20th 2026, State Representative Martin McLaughlin told Capitol News Illinois that you’d have a hard time finding him mentioning Donald Trump by name in anything since 2015.

We found an entire speech. From February 21, 2025.

At the McHenry County GOPAC’s America First Leadership Dinner, McLaughlin repeatedly praised Trump, talked about what first won him over, credited Trump with delivering on his promises, and told Illinois Republicans they should embrace Trump’s approach.

And we didn’t have to dig through old videos, deleted posts, or obscure archives to find it.

The speech was published in full by The Barrington Hills Observer on February 24, 2025.

Swipe through McLaughlin’s own words, then compare them with what he told reporters just this week.

You can read the entire speech yourself:

The quotes are public. The dates are documented. The statements speak for themselves.

What do you make of the difference between the two?
