After a two-day jury trial, a guilty verdict was returned in a r**e case investigated by the Elk City Police Department. Sidney Hudson was sentenced to life in prison for R**e in the First Degree.

Cases involving sexual violence are among the most difficult and sensitive investigations law enforcement officers undertake.

They require countless hours of investigative work, attention to detail, patience, and an unwavering commitment to seeking justice for victims.

The Elk City Police Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Beckham County District II Attorney’s Office for their hard work, professionalism, and dedication throughout the prosecution of this case.

The cooperation between our patrol officers, detectives and prosecutors demonstrates the importance of working together toward a common goal: protecting our community and holding offenders accountable.

We also recognize the courage and strength it takes for a victim to come forward and endure the difficult process of seeking justice. Their voices deserve to be heard, and their cases deserve to be pursued with determination and compassion.

Justice does not happen by accident. It takes teamwork, dedication, perseverance, and people who refuse to give up.

The Elk City Police Department remains committed to standing with victims, pursuing justice, and protecting the citizens we proudly serve.

While flooding will be a concern in the watch (green) area today and tonight, we are particularly concerned about the area bounded by the yellow dashed lines. Several rounds of rain have already fallen in this area and more are on the way.

On October 1, 2026, the Elk City Police Department was notified by the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office regarding a wanted subject, identified as Brian Schoshke, who was wanted on Felony Warrants out of Canadian County for Trafficking Illegal Drugs, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Conspiracy and Grand Larceny.

Elk City officers began attempting to locate Schoshke after receiving information that he was in the Elk City area. Officers located the residence that Schoshke was at and attempted to contact him at the residence which was unsuccessful. Officers determined he was not at the residence and continued to search for him.

Officers were later notified by a citizen that Schoshke had returned to his residence. When officers attempted to make contact and take him into custody, Schoshke barricaded himself inside a trailer.
During the ensuing standoff, officers gave Schoshke multiple warnings and commands to exit the trailer and surrender. After he refused and failed to comply with the commands, chemical agent (gas) was deployed into the trailer. Schoshke subsequently surrendered peacefully without further incident and was taken into custody on the outstanding Canadian County Felony Warrants.

The Elk City Police Department would like to extend our appreciation to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office for reaching out to our agency, providing the information, and working with us to help get this wanted individual off the streets. Because of the timely communication and cooperation between agencies, Elk City Police Department was able to use the information provided to locate the individual and take him into custody.

This is another example of how law enforcement agencies working together and sharing information can make a direct impact on keeping our communities safe. Thank you to our fellow law enforcement partners for your continued cooperation and dedication to public safety.

The Elk City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division investigated a case that resulted in felony warrants being issued for John Torres Diaz out of the Beckham County District Court CF-2025-00174 for Sexual Child Abuse under 12 and R**e by Instrumentation.

Following the issuance of the warrant and his court proceedings, Diaz removed his electronic ankle monitor and fled, prompting the Elk City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division to request assistance from the United States Marshals Service. The U.S. Marshals Service began actively assisting with the investigation and efforts to locate Diaz.

Yesterday 10/06/2026, the United States Marshals Service, Elk City Police Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol executed a search warrant at a residence in Sayre, Oklahoma, in an effort to locate Diaz. Marshals subsequently developed information indicating Diaz was at a residence in Dill City, Oklahoma. Officers responded to the location with assistance from the Wash*ta County Sheriff's Office. Upon officers' arrival, Diaz barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to comply with officers' commands. Less-lethal options were utilized, and Diaz ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Diaz was transported and booked on the outstanding warrants.

The Elk City Police Department would like to thank the United States Marshals Service, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Wash*ta County Sheriff's Office for their assistance and cooperation throughout this investigation.

This incident is another example of the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to locate wanted individuals and hold them accountable through the judicial process.
