October is ADHD Awareness Month. Let’s challenge a few common misconceptions:

Myth: ADHD is just a lack of focus.
Fact: ADHD can affect organization, time management, impulse control, and emotional regulation.

Myth: ADHD only affects children.
Fact: ADHD can continue into adulthood and many adults are diagnosed later in life.

Myth: People with ADHD just need to try harder.
Fact: Understanding, effective strategies, and support can make a meaningful difference.

Elk Grove Township Adult and Family Counseling Programs offers free ADHD screenings for ages 6-21. Additionally, counseling is provided for those who struggle, their parents, and family members.

For further information and to speak with a counselor call 847 981-0373.

As the leaves begin to change, fall reminds us that change can be a beautiful part of growing and learning.

In Youth Services, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when youth can move, create, explore, experiment, and work together.

Whether they’re solving a challenge, building, creating art, exploring nature, or acting out a story, hands-on experiences help youth build confidence, problem-solving skills, communication, and curiosity - all while having fun! We guide youth to reflect and connect what they've learned to real-life situations.

Just as the seasons change, youth are constantly growing, discovering new things, and finding new ways to connect with the world around them. Learning isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we experience.

Elk Grove Township is proud to support local nonprofit partners through our Mental Health & Wellness Service Contracts.

This month, we're recognizing Access to Care a nonprofit health care program administered by the Suburban Primary Health Council that helps connect lower-income, uninsured, and underinsured residents to affordable health care services.

Since 1988, Access to Care has helped residents of suburban Cook County and northwest Chicago access quality medical care. Through partnerships with physicians and hospitals across the region, the program provides members with unlimited $5 co-pay primary care visits, unlimited $5 co-pay lab and x-ray services, and low-cost prescription coverage with co-pays ranging from $15-$40. These services help reduce barriers to care and ensure individuals and families can access the health services they need close to home.

Individuals interested in the program can determine their eligibility by visiting accesstocare.org or calling 708-531-0680.

Funding through Elk Grove Township's Mental Health & Wellness Service Contracts helps support Access to Care's mission of increasing access to affordable, high-quality health care and improving health outcomes for individuals and families throughout our community.
