The school is named for a long-time member of the Elk Grove Board of Education who retired in 2000 a Welcome to Edward Harris, Jr. Edward Harris, Jr.

Middle School, home of the Colts, a NASA Explorer School, and GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) school. A core principle of Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School's vision is for all students to graduate from college and become productive leaders in a global society. Students are immersed in a college-going culture and greeted daily as "Future College Graduates."

We are looking for candidates who strive for excellence in learning and want to champion student growth. This event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with EGUSD staff, learn more about job growth potential as well as a variety of leadership opportunities, and discover the benefits of working for the fifth-largest district in California. National School Counseling Week 2023, “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 6–10, 2023, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Ruby Bridges stepped into the history books in 1960 when she integrated William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans at the age of 6. She later became a national icon for the fight against racism and all forms of bullying. EHMS students will take a walk around campus to commemorate her fight and to inspire students everywhere to be leaders against racism and bullying.

Elk Grove Unified recognizes Sunday, June 19 as Juneteenth Independence Day. African Americans who had been formerly enslaved in the Southwest celebrated June 19, commonly known as “Juneteenth Independence Day,” as inspiration and encouragement for future generations. The State of California has designated Juneteenth Independence Day as a special day of observance in recognition of the emancipation of all enslaved people in the United States, and celebrations have been held to honor African American freedom while encouraging self-development and respect for all cultures. The faith and strength of character demonstrated by formerly enslaved people and the descendants of formerly enslaved people remain an example for all people of the United States, regardless of background, religion, or race.

Recognizing Hmong American Day 05/13/2022

Elk Grove Unified recognizes Hmong American Day on May 14, 2022. Hmong American Day is a time to remember and honor Hmong people’s history, stories and contributions in the Vietnam War. May 14, 1975 was the last airlift evacuation of Hmong soldiers and families from Laos to a refugee camp in Thailand, and many Hmong refugees and their families immigrated to the United States. Today, over 40,000 of the more than 325,000 Hmong Americans are residents of Sacramento County. Hmong Americans are helping build a vibrant and diverse California, contributing socially, politically, and economically to our State. EGUSD celebrates the history, culture and contributions of Hmong Americans in California.
