What a week!! 6 Exira-EHK FFA members traveled to the 99th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis and made a tour detour in Chicago. In our short time in Chicago, we visited the Shedd Aquarium and found Nemo, sharks, penguins and a bunch of other awesome things, saw Lake Michigan, visited “The Bean”, went to the top of Willis Tower, spent the evening at Navy Pier and rode the Ferris Wheel, went to the Field Museum to see the TRex named Sue, saw a community garden with hydroponics that provides fresh produce for a neighborhood that otherwise struggles with food security, ate some authentic Italian beefs and Chicago dogs and toured Wrigley Field. Once in Indy, we were up bright and early in our Official Dress to attend opening session with a retired National Officer as the Keynote Speaker, experienced the college and career fair and ended the exhausting day getting scared at the Indy Scream Park. We seriously had one of the best trips with prompt professional kids, amazing advisors and schools and just a little Chicago traffic!

It's October and that means FFA Fruit! Contact an FFA member or Mrs. Borkowski to place your orders for fruit, meat and cheese, candies, popcorn, herring and jerky! Orders will deliver the first week in December and funds raised help support premiere leadership, personal growth and career success of our young agriculture students!

When the floriculture contest the advisor was hosting gets postponed, you get to play with flowers in class! We have had some fun the last few days in the ag room and some super big messes!! 🌸

We haven’t exactly kicked off our year, but the FFA is partnering with Windy Hill Compost, LLC to reduce the food waste at Exira-EHK MS/HS. So far this week has been extremely successful!!

The GREAT Iowa State Fair!!

We have three friendly Exira-EHK members serving as grandstand ushers and helpers at the fair. Be sure to be on the look out for Leah, Kaitlyn and Chet! Today Chet and Leah also showed theirs Market weathers in the FFA Show and recorded blue ribbons!!

Although she isn’t “technically” an FFA member YET our Chapter wants to congratulate Paisley Hansen who represented Shelby County and the Elk Horn Explorers 4-H club. Paisley exhibited the Champion Breeding Doe and the Reserve Champion Market Goat at the elite Best of the West Showdown. More impressively, Paisley recieved Showmanship with her doe. Paisley and her doe will now advance to the All Iowa Showdown! She is going to be one to watch as she continues to work hard and grow her passion for the agriculture industry! We are so proud of you, Paisley! Congratulations!!
