Thank you Officer Rice!
👮♂️ Meet ERS' School Resource Officer, John Rice. Officer Rice has worked in law enforcement for more than 20 years, and has spent the past four school years on campus working directly with students and staff.
He works on establishing security protocols and providing safety to our students, but more than anything, he says his number one job is to build relationships.
"That's what keeps everybody safe. When you build a relationship, when you know somebody, it keeps them from being way off on their own where you don't know how they're thinking or feeling."
"We're working to bridge the gap of policing, community policing, and making relationships with not only kids but staff and the community."
Officer Rice has an office in the high school and keeps a candy jar on his desk to encourage kids to come in and chat.
During the summer and breaks, he works regular city patrols. When he's not in uniform, Officer Rice is an avid outdoorsmen who enjoys fishing, trapping, and snowmobiling.
Thank you for all that you do, Officer Rice!
