Ellendale Fire Department

It’s our favorite week of the year! Fire prevention week gives us the chance to teach about fire safety to our local K-5 classes. Each grade level got to go through a different learning plan with firefighters Rick and Nolan.

We also had a coloring contest this year! Thanks to Jensens heating, cooling and plumbing in Geneva, the top three pictures from each class got a $5 gift card to Dairy Queen! Deciding wasn’t easy as there’s an awful lot of talent here at NRHEG! 🎨 The top 6 will also be on display at our open house this Sunday 3-7!

Our crew always enjoys being able to take this day to teach the local youth. There’s always more a family can do at home though such as making escape plans, meeting points and fire extinguisher locations. We hope they enjoyed their time at the fire hall!

UPDATE #2: Blooming Prairie will have 20 kits available Tuesday Sept. 22 at 10:30am at the City Hall. 1 kit per house. Please fill out the link for the damage assessment on the other post so we make sure we are keeping track of households affected to get more kits if needed.
Ellendale Community Center received more kits today.

UPDATE: We have requested more kits from Red Cross. They will be delivered Monday or Tuesday to Ellendale AND Blooming Prairie.

Residents of Ellendale and surrounding areas in Steele County… Did you get water in your basement? We have Redcross Clean-Up kits (1 kit per household). Stop down at the Ellendale Community Center. Kits will be available on Sunday. If we run out, we will be getting more from the Red Cross. Just leave your name and number on the sign-up sheet so we know how many to get.

We have CERT volunteers out doing damage assessments now. There are also property damage survey sheets available at the community center. If you were not home when we stopped by. Please email them to [email protected]

If you are not home, but have water/sewer damage, please call 507-475-9631.

This months training was the live burn trailer! This training covers a lot of bases as it allows the guys to practice not only extinguishing fires but also putting their personal protective equipment on, maintaining their scbas and running the pump. The group as a whole did well! 🔥 👨🏻‍🚒 👩🏼‍🚒🚒

Thank you to Riverland for putting on the training!

We’ll be there as well! Hope to see you there!

You’d get to work alongside some pretty cool firefighters too 😎

It was a big night tonight as we transitioned into the new hall! We had our main man Rick overseeing the process, he’s an integral part of our group! We’ve still got plenty to do and things to dial in before they’re exactly how we want. We definitely appreciate all the community support throughout this process. We look forward to better serving the community in the future!

At the moment we’re hoping to host a community open house during Fire prevention Week in October. We’re very excited to show off what we’ve been working on! 👨🏻‍🚒
