3,037 Pounds of Fresh Produce in September!
What a month of harvesting and sharing! Thanks to the generosity of local farmers, gardeners, businesses, and volunteers, FISH received an incredible 3,037 pounds of fresh produce through gleaning efforts and community donations in September!
Apples, pears, plums, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, corn, zucchini, squash, kale, mushrooms, and so much more made their way to FISH to help nourish our neighbors.
And nothing goes to waste! Gleaned corn was put to delicious use in bratwurst with grilled corn and corn and potato chowder, while donated tomatoes were vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen for future soups at Open Table.
A huge thank-you to our generous community donors and partners:
IOOF Memorial Garden, Wildcat Farm, Happy's Market,Warriors Market, St. Andrews Community Garden, Sundance Orchards, Plant Co., Sleepy Chicken Farm, U-Pick Corn Patch, Quiet Cadence Community Garden, Sky Garden Center, Curtis Bull, Sherry, Dan S., Betsey B., Robin R., and six anonymous donors.
And thank you to our Farmers Market donors: Goodness, Emerald Farm, Foods, Garibo's Farm, La Huertita, Liberty Farm, Orchards, and Garden!
Of course, none of this would be possible without the hardworking volunteers who help gather and transport all that beautiful produce.
Every pound makes a difference. Thank you for helping us turn our community's abundance into nutritious food for our neighbors!
