As fall wildfire season begins in North Carolina, the N.C. Forest Service is urging the public to take extra care with outdoor burning. Wildfire activity typically increases from October through early December, when falling leaves, dry vegetation and changing weather conditions can allow fires to spread quickly.

“Most wildfires in this state are preventable,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Human activity continues to be responsible for more than 99% of wildfires in North Carolina, making individual actions one of our most important tools for preventing wildfires. Before you burn, take simple steps to keep your backyard fire in your backyard.”

🚨 🚨🚨CANCELLED🚨🚨🚨

Shortly after posting, I was notified that the drill for tomorrow has been postponed to a later date.

‼️‼️ Announcement‼️‼️

On Friday, September 18, Ellerbe Middle will be conducting fire drills and practicing fire safety techniques.
Ellerbe Fire Department will have at least one, if not more apparatus at the school to observe, and to better understand the school’s process in how they conduct fire drills today, where evacuation directions are, where students will gather outside, and other processes.
In being present for these types of drills, it gives our members better knowledge and awareness of the school’s process, as well as lets us know what to expect to see in the event of a fire before we ever arrive on scene!
Strengthening our preplan allows us to work more effectively and efficiently, while keeping our kids safe!!!

We are proud of our members, who line things like this up to do on their days off, and choose to train at every opportunity!!

"The goal of education is understanding; the goal of training is performance."

Ellerbe Fire Department receives a Community Grant from Vulcan Materials

Ellerbe Fire Department was the recent recipient of a grant from Vulcan Materials for the purchase of Class A/B Fire Foam that is used to assist us in in fire suppression. This foam is a critical tool that increases the efficiency of fire suppression operations. This product provides the firefighters with the safest foam material for both the firefighters and the environment. The use of foam increases the extinguishing properties of water and decreases the amount of water needed for fire suppression. Firefighters benefit from AB foam because it is versatile, effective, and efficient—it can suppress both common and flammable liquid fires, improve cooling and oxygen suppression, reduces water usage, and enhances safety and visibility on the fireground.

Members of the department reached out to Denise Hallett in her role as Vulcan Regional Community and Government Relations Manager. After completing the grant application request, the department was notified of the award. In response to awarding the grant to Ellerbe Fire Department, Ms Hallett shared the following: "Supporting First Responders in the communities we serve benefits everyone. It's The Vulcan Way!". The attached photograph shows members of the Ellerbe Fire Department with some of the foam purchased with this grant. Ellerbe Fire Department appreciates the partnership between Vulcan Materials and the local community.
These types of partnerships go a long way in building positive relationships between local business and the community.

September 11, 2001 will forever be a day that means so much to us.
We will always remember those who gave their lives to help strangers in their time of need.
343 firefighters gave their lives that day, and we honor them, and every other life lost that day 🇺🇸

Last night, our members took advantage of a cooler evening and did some prep work on our training house. Not to say that we didn’t do our share of sweating!! We have been able to use this house to train in for some time, and can build obstacles , and change the course from time to time to simulate real world obstacles and encounters.

We are fortunate to have this house to be able to use to better prepare and train our new, and even our seasoned members for hazards that may be encountered while fighting a house fire. We can also expose new members to heat and smoke, and let them have that experience in a controlled environment!

Very thankful and grateful to say that 80% of these materials, as well as the use of the house, are donated.

Yes, we are late, but did not forget… All of us at Ellerbe Fire Department would like to congratulate one of our own, Lt. Cody Ferrell in his completion and graduation from Richmond Community College Fire Academy!

This is a monumental task, in which men and women have to set aside a great deal of their normal daily lives to attend these classes.
