Gilmer County Fire/Rescue recently hosted a Technical Rope Rescue class, bringing responders together for advanced training focused on high-angle and technical rescue operations.

This type of training is critical for our area. Gilmer County’s terrain, roadways, trails, rivers, cliffs, and remote locations can create complex rescue situations where standard access is not enough.

Technical rope rescue training helps prepare firefighters and rescue personnel to safely reach, stabilize, package, and remove patients from difficult environments.

During the course, our teams worked through advanced rope systems, patient movement, rescue team coordination, safety procedures, and practical scenarios designed to build both skill and confidence. These operations require discipline, communication, and trust between team members.

We appreciate everyone who participated, instructed, supported, and helped make this training possible. Continued training like this strengthens our department’s readiness and improves our ability to serve Gilmer County when the call is difficult, technical, or time-sensitive.

Gilmer County Fire/Rescue remains committed to training, readiness, and service to our community.

Last week, Gilmer County Fire/Rescue had the privilege of hosting Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) training, bringing together public safety professionals committed to sharpening the skills that save lives when seconds matter most.

Over three intense days, participants trained in hemorrhage control, casualty movement, tactical patient care, team coordination, and real-world high-threat medical response scenarios. The hands-on scenarios pushed responders to think critically, communicate effectively, and operate under pressure in environments designed to mirror the challenges faced in the field every day.

What makes this important is bigger than one class.
Training like this strengthens the readiness of our responders, builds stronger partnerships across agencies, and directly improves the level of care and protection we can provide to the citizens and visitors of Gilmer County. Gilmer County Fire/Rescue is committed to bringing high-level training opportunities to our region and continuing to invest in the people who answer the call when the community needs them most.

A huge thank you to Valkyries Austere Medical Solutions, the Region A Healthcare Coalition, and all participating agencies, instructors, and students who made this training a success. The professionalism, teamwork, and dedication displayed throughout the course were outstanding.

This is what progress looks like.
This is what preparedness looks like.
This is Gilmer County Fire/Rescue.

Training hosted in partnership with the Region A Healthcare Coalition and Valkyries Austere Medical Solutions.

Emergency response is about far more than what happens when lights and sirens are on.

The moments our community sees during an emergency are supported by countless hours of training, preparation, equipment checks, coordination, and teamwork behind the scenes every single day.

At Gilmer County Fire/Rescue, our team continues working hard to strengthen their skills, support one another, and stay prepared for whatever challenges may come their way.

Whether responding to medical emergencies, fires, vehicle accidents, or severe weather events, readiness starts long before the call comes in.

We are proud of the dedication our crews show to this community and grateful for the trust the citizens of Gilmer County place in us each day.

Thank you for your continued support of the men and women who serve this county.

This EMS Week, I just want to say thank you.

Thank you to the paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, firefighters, nurses, supervisors, educators, mechanics, support staff, and every person behind the scenes who answers the call when someone’s worst day becomes your responsibility.

People see the lights and sirens, but they don’t always see the sacrifices behind them.

The missed holidays.

The sleepless nights.

The meals that go cold.

The emotional weight carried home after difficult calls.

The moments you hold together for complete strangers while quietly carrying your own burdens.

EMS is more than a profession. It is a commitment to service, compassion, and showing up when others cannot.

This week is a reminder that what you do matters. Every life touched, every family comforted, and every patient cared for with dignity leaves an impact far beyond what you may ever hear about again.

To those still answering calls at 3 a.m., still mentoring the next generation, still giving everything they have to their communities despite the challenges facing EMS today… you are appreciated more than words can properly express.

Take pride in the difference you make every single day.

From all of us at Gilmer Fire/Rescue, Happy EMS Week to all of our brothers and sisters in public safety and healthcare.

Stay safe, take care of each other, and never forget the value of the work you do.

One thing I’ve come to appreciate about Gilmer County Fire Rescue is the pride our people take in serving this community.

In EMS and the fire service, the public usually sees us on someone’s worst day.

What they don’t always see is the preparation behind the scenes long before the tones ever drop, the training, teamwork, planning, and commitment that make those responses possible.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some outstanding professionals, but there’s something special about being part of an organization where people genuinely care about doing the job the right way every single day.

From operational readiness and training to patient care and coordination with our public safety and healthcare partners, our crews continue to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and pride in this profession.

I’m proud to serve alongside this team and excited about where Gilmer County Fire Rescue is headed.
