The City of Ellijay Fire Department kicked off our fire safety month this morning with some visitors from North Georgia Christian Academy. Captain Hightower gave these kids a tour of the fire trucks and talked about fire safety

* Tornado Warning for...
Southwestern Gilmer County in north central Georgia...
South central Murray County in northwestern Georgia...
Northeastern Gordon County in northwestern Georgia...
Northwestern Pickens County in north central Georgia...

* Until 930 PM EDT.

* At 856 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located over Audubon, or 11 miles northeast of Calhoun, moving
east at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...
Oakman, Carters, Audubon and Roundtop.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.

Gilmer County Fire & Rescue and the Ellijay Fire Department are proud to announce their annual Christmas for Kids boot drive. This is our 13th year to ask for your donations that go 100% to the kids in our county who are in need. You have been so generous in previous years that we don't measure the success in dollars. It's evident in the smiles, the joy, and the elation on our kids faces when the gifts rollout. It's the pride, the compassion, and the tears of happiness when our wonderful teachers and staff see those little faces!

We'll be at the Ingles exit driveway and at the 4-way stop next to Longhorns tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Please help us fill the boots with any coins or bills you can spare. Let's make this another joyful and compassionate Christmas for our children.
