September 28th, 2025, is a day that will weigh heavy in the hearts and minds of First Responders in Ellis County. One year ago, our community suffered an immense loss that will never be forgotten.
Sgt. Scott Heimann was killed in the line of duty while serving the community he so dearly loved and had sworn to protect. For those who knew him, worked beside him, loved him, and called him a friend, the passage of time does not erase his absence.
On the first anniversary of his death, I hope our community will come together once again, not only to remember Scott and honor his sacrifice, but to stand beside the people who continue to carry this loss every single day.
Please remember Scott’s wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Victoria and Patrick. Continue to surround them with love, prayer, encouragement, and support. For Elizabeth, Victoria, and Patrick, this loss is not simply a day on a calendar; it is an absence felt in countless moments throughout every day. Their loss did not end when the memorial service was over, and neither should our commitment to supporting them.
We also ask our community to stand behind the men and women who serve as First Responders throughout our area. Police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and all those who answer the call each day carry burdens most of our community will never fully see. The events of September 28th reminded us in the most painful way that there are real people, spouses, children, parents, friends, and families behind every badge and uniform.
We ask everyone to be kind to one another. The one thing in life that costs us nothing is kindness. Help those in need. Show compassion to strangers. Be patient with those who may be carrying burdens you cannot see. And finally, show gratitude to those who extend a helping hand in your own time of need.
To Elizabeth, Victoria, and Patrick, to Scott’s family, and his brothers and sisters in law enforcement, and to every first responder still carrying the weight of that day:
We remember.
We remember the husband, father, brother, and son his family lost.
We remember the friend and colleague so many continue to miss.
We remember the Sergeant who answered the call and gave his life in service to others.
We remember Scott.
May we never allow his memory to fade from this earth.
