Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) insurance is gaining attention among cattle producers as a flexible risk management tool.

MU Extension's updated LRP guide, written by MU Extension - Agriculture and Environment Program specialists Ben Brown and Ryan Milhollin, highlights several features that may make LRP an option for a wide range of operations. New and beginning farmers may qualify for a higher premium subsidy, while coverage can be purchased on as few as one head. LRP can also provide coverage for unborn calves.

Whether you have a larger operation or a small herd, understanding how LRP works can help you make informed risk management decisions.

Read the updated guide to learn more about LRP and determine whether it may be a fit for your operation:

A new study out of South Dakota found that about a quarter of surveyed farmers have adopted drone technology, despite high upfront costs. But there was lingering concern about the value of that investment.

Drones serve two main purposes on farms: capturing aerial imagery to monitor crop health and catch problems like nutrient deficiencies or disease early, and applying fertilizer, pesticide or herbicide with GPS-guided precision.

Since 1984, Missouri's 1/10 of 1% sales tax has helped fund more than 288,000 conservation practices on 8 million acres of Missouri farmland. Cover crops. Contour terraces. Grass waterways. Livestock ponds. All paid for through locally elected Soil & Water Conservation Districts in every Missouri county. It's the renewal, not a new tax. Vote YES on Amendment 1, August 4.
