Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center The Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center offers hope, knowledge & support to cancer patients & families The Beth C.
(1)

Wright Cancer Resource Center in Ellsworth is one of only three freestanding cancer resource centers in Maine. It serves Hancock and Washington Counties where the incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates for cancer far exceed both the state and national averages. Wright Center is the place to turn for education and support in making sense of a cancer diagnosis and proceeding with your life. Wright Cancer Resource Center provides a comfortable place for cancer patients, families, and friends to meet their educational and emotional needs. Our staff is almost entirely volunteer; professionals and caring community members donate their time to offer classes, meetings, and programs that are free to people with cancer, their families, and friends. We offer books, brochures, video and audio tapes as well as a computer with access to the internet.

๐ŸŒป Understanding the words can help you feel more informed.

A cancer diagnosis can bring unfamiliar terms, lots of questions, and overwhelming emotions. You donโ€™t have to understand everything all at once or be afraid to ask what something means. ๐Ÿ’›

This graphic explains 20 common cancer terms in everyday language. Save it for reference, share it with someone who may find it helpful, and ask your care team how these terms relate to your situation.

At the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, weโ€™re here to listen, offer support, and help you find resources along the way. You donโ€™t have to face cancer alone.

๐ŸŽ€ LETโ€™S TALK ABOUT HEALTHY LIVING! ๐Ÿฉท

Taking care of your health starts with small, everyday choices. While breast cancer cannot always be prevented, certain habits may help lower your risk and support your overall well-being. Breast cancer can affect both women and men.

๐Ÿฅ— Nourish your body. Enjoy a balanced diet with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and other nutritious foods.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Keep moving. Find activities you enjoy. Regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight can help lower breast cancer risk.

๐Ÿšญ Avoid to***co and limit alcohol. If you smoke, support is available to help you quit. For cancer prevention, itโ€™s best not to drink alcohol.

๐ŸŽ€ Know whatโ€™s normal for you. Be aware of changes in your breasts or chest, including size, shape, skin, or ni***es.

๐Ÿฅ Stay on track with screening. Talk with your health care team about when to begin screening and how often, based on your age, personal history, and risk factors.

๐Ÿ’— Get changes checked. A new lump, unusual ni**le discharge, or another breast change deserves medical attention even if you recently had a normal mammogram. Most changes are not cancer, but getting checked matters.

Healthy habits cannot eliminate breast cancer risk. A diagnosis is never someoneโ€™s fault. Knowing your body, getting recommended screenings, and seeking care for changes are all important parts of caring for yourself.

๐Ÿฉท This Pink October, make time for your health and encourage someone you love to do the same.

Your health matters. Early detection can save lives. ๐ŸŽ€
