Making strides again, the Riverside School Board voted unanimously to create an athletics committee for the district. This will be an advisory group, who may supply the board with information, ideas, and assistance in order to make the best decisions on related issues and achieve positive outcomes. The School Board President, according to policy, has authority to appoint members. This committee will function similarly to the newly established Buildings and Grounds committee, which began meeting monthly and is comprised of several board members, staff and community members. Buildings and Grounds reported that a feasibility study is underway. More updates to come as the group forms. The pursuit of seeking grant money was mentioned at this evening’s meeting. If you have interest in serving the district by writing grants, there will be future discussions on the matter. Please contact the school board. Thank you.

New Horizon School – Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit 10/22/2025

It has come before the school board as a request from BVIU that Riverside commit to expend $85,000.00 annually for 30 years toward a bond payment on behalf of BVIU to spend money to renovate the New Horizon School. The first payment is split into 3 years.

There has been a mold issue and now the plans for a $20million dollar renovation are in the works. We currently do not have an estimate of the amount of insurance coverage for damages, but the loan estimate includes a remodel of the entire building. Riverside is currently in a budget deficit for the year of approximately negative 2 million. Please contact a school board member with questions or recommendations about the commitment to this 30 year payment to the BVIU that is designated for New Horizon. BVIU has other annual payments from Riverside for various services. In the current year, Riverside is sending zero students to New Horizon, but other years has sent as many as 4, according to this week’s meeting discussion. The tuition Riverside pays to New Horizon is $44,000.00 per student annually. We currently have one student budgeted for the year. The board decided Monday to table any action on this in order to have time to gather more information and inform the public. Please feel free to email the board or call and ask questions. Thank you.

The School Board made local history last night by voting in favor of creating a building and grounds committee. For many years now, no standing committees have existed, though they are listed in the board policy information. Every other local district has designated committees and some even list their board members on those committees publicly. A unanimous vote created an opportunity to finally have a contact point at the school for concerns and ideas. This includes issues about athletic fields (as we heard from visitors last night), structural issues (new rooftops are needed), and potential funding (such as grant opportunities or budgetary needs). Moving forward, board President Plassmyer will be appointing members at his discretion. It will be good to see what a group of interested minds can create with collaborative effort.
Whether you are concerned about tax increases/needs for things like turf on the football field/a new track, prioritization of projects like roofing costs and updates, or if you would be willing to help write grant proposals, tracking the efforts of this new committe will keep you informed.
Additionally, the board is thankful for all those who put effort into the new sign for the entrance, as it was generated by purely volunteers and their own fundraising!

The approved 2024 / 2025 School Board Budget For Riverside District did not increase spending. (But, you will see numeric changes on your tax rates since the numbers have all changed with the new assessment.)
This is a great achievement by the board to ensure stability for our taxpayers and residents to remain financially able to support the local school. No more dollars were budgeted to spend in the upcoming year than the last. The administration did a great job of finding cost savings and maneuvers for budget balancing. This chart is for comparable districts’ final millage rates, concluding the county’s reassessment.
