I’m excited to share a little bit of good news at the Ellwood City Little Free Library!

I recently won a giveaway through Little Free Library’s partnership with Upworthy and received a copy of GOOD PEOPLE: Stories From the Best of Humanity by Gabriel Reilich and Lucia Knell.

This 2024 bestseller features 101 uplifting true stories about everyday people and the kindness, compassion, and goodness they bring into the world. And now, this book has found a home in our Little Free Library! 💙

If you take it, I hope you’ll enjoy the stories, and then bring the book back to the library when you’re finished so someone else in our community can have a chance to read it, too. Let’s keep the kindness circulating along with this book!

Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com

Hi, neighbors! 😊 Our Little Free Library is running a little low on children’s and young adult books. If you have any books your kids have outgrown and would like to pass along, we’d love to give them a new home in the library.

The LFL will be returning to Lawrence Avenue by the end of this week! The recent humidity has left the paint a bit tacky, so we’re giving it a little more time to dry completely before reinstalling it.

Once it's back, be sure to stop by and pick up a new bookmark! 🙂

Also, a friendly reminder: please do not leave book donations at the library site until the LFL has been reinstalled. A bag of books was left at the post over the weekend and, unfortunately, was ruined by the rain.

The Little Free Library is currently getting a fresh coat of paint, so I thought it was the perfect time to reintroduce myself!

Hi, I’m Hannah, the steward of the Little Free Library on Lawrence Avenue. I plan to be more active on this page, so you’ll be seeing a bit more from me here!

I started our Little Free Library in 2018 as an AmeriCorps service project, and it’s been such a joy watching our community continue to share books over the years.

A little about me: I teach first grade, I’m a Lincoln High School graduate (Class of 2013), and I recently completed my Doctorate in Leadership and Administration at Slippery Rock University. I also married my high school sweetheart, Dillon, in 2024. My students would definitely tell you I love all things leopard print! 🐆

Our library is always full thanks to the community, but right now we could especially use donations of children’s and young adult books to help keep younger readers stocked.

Once the library is back up after its fresh coat of paint, I’ll be sharing more updates and ways to support it!

For the next couple of months, the Ellwood City Little Free Library, located in the Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue, will be transformed into a Little Free Food Pantry.

Please feel free to take what you need or leave what you can to help our neighbors (and their pets) through the season. Every can, box, and gesture of kindness makes a difference.

As Mr. Rogers reminded us, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

Let’s come together as a community of helpers, lending a hand and sharing what we can 🤍💙
