Elm Mott Volunteer Fire & Rescue Firefighting - one of the few professions left that still makes house calls since 1955

Volunteer firefighters serve the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance. They perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, and building inspection and public education.

Elm Mott, Chalk Bluff & Lincoln City, we've got some great news to share!

Elm Mott Fire Rescue has been awarded a $704,761 FEMA grant for a brand-new fire engine! πŸŽ‰

Here's how big this is: we were the only department in Texas to receive an engine grant this round. That speaks to the real need in our communities.

Over the past three years, we've brought in close to $1 million in grants, helping us replace trucks and equipment from the 1990s with modern, reliable gear to protect your families, homes, farms, and our stretch of I-35.

But here's something a lot of folks don't know: these grants aren't free. Depending on the grant, we have to match 5 to 10% out of pocket, and often pay up front before we're reimbursed. That's a big lift for a volunteer department.

That's where this community shines. Recently, a generous member of our community stepped up and covered the up-front cost of our new tender so the department didn't have to pay bank interest while we wait on grant reimbursement. That kind of generosity is what makes this possible. πŸ™

Our district got 640+ calls for service in 2025, and that number keeps growing. Every dollar and every hour goes toward being ready for those calls.

Thank you to our Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Firefighters and administrative members, who put in countless hours pulling records and preparing documents for these grants, and to our volunteer firefighters who give up nights, weekends, and holidays to serve. ❀️

Thank you as well to FEMA, Senator John Cornyn's office for reaching out to congratulate us, and to every one of you who supports us.

Want to help? Donations toward our grant match can be mailed to PO Box 46, Elm Mott, TX 76640. Interested in volunteering? Visit elmmottfire.com.

NOW SEEKING: Volunteer Administrative Assistant | Elm Mott Fire Rescue

Elm Mott Fire Rescue is growing, and so is the need in our community. We serve Elm Mott, Chalk Bluff, and Lincoln City, and we're looking for one or two dependable people to help keep our department organized behind the scenes so our firefighters can stay focused on the call.

Who we're hoping to find:This role is a great fit for a college student looking to build volunteer experience serving the local community, or a retired professional with experience in administration, office management, billing, or grants. If you don't fit either category but are interested, please don't be discouraged. We'd still love to hear from you.

Time commitment: About 5 hours per week, with some weeks up to 10. Flexible schedule.

Work from home:Most of the work can be done from home, and the department will provide you with a new laptop.

What you'll help with:
-Keeping our run reporting on track: our firefighters write the call reports, and you'll make sure every call gets reported, follow up on any that are missing or incomplete, and help keep our records accurate
- Working with our billing software to make sure all billing is entered correctly and completely
- Supporting grant applications and working with our grant writers
- Checking and responding to department emails
- Tracking down, organizing, and managing documents and records
- Building and improving paperwork processes and filing systems
- Scheduling, preparing for, and taking notes at meetings
- Helping onboard and set up new software for the department
- General administrative support for the Chief and leadership team

What we're looking for:
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Comfortable with email, Word/Excel, Google Docs, Claude, and learning new software
- Comfortable following up with people to keep things on track
- Dependable, discreet, and able to handle sensitive information
- Administrative, office, grant, billing, or nonprofit experience is a big plus, but not required
- Familiarity with HIPAA or medical records is a plus

No firefighting experience needed. If you're organized, reliable, and want to serve your neighbors, we'd love to hear from you.

**How to apply:** Apply online at elmmottfire.com or email [email protected]. Questions are welcome too, just send us a message here on Facebook.

National Night Out 2026 was a great night at Elm Mott Fire & Rescue Station 2 in Chalk Bluff!

We had a fantastic turnout and really enjoyed getting to spend the evening with the people we serve. Events like this are a great reminder that strong communities are built through relationships between neighbors and the first responders who serve them.

A huge thank you to the Mclennan County Sheriff's Office and AirLift Texas for coming out and spending time with our community. We also want to thank Jeb Barr for coming out with Living Hope.

Most importantly, thank you to every community member and family who came out tonight. We loved seeing the kids checking out the fire trucks and helicopter, meeting our firefighters and deputies, and just enjoying an evening together.

We are proud to serve Chalk Bluff and the surrounding communities, and we appreciate the continued support you show Elm Mott Fire Rescue.

BURN BAN LIFTED β€” McLennan County

McLennan County has officially lifted the Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning following the recent rainfall.

While the burn ban is no longer in effect, conditions can still change quickly. Please use extreme caution with any outdoor burning, keep water or another extinguishing method nearby, never leave a fire unattended, and make sure the fire is completely out before leaving the area.

Please continue to burn responsibly and help us keep our community safe.
