Kudos to Elma Asst. Chiefs Billy Nolan and Nate Warnock along with EMT Patrick Helper and AMR Ambulance crew. During our Company Meeting on 09/14/26 representatives from
Catholic Health-Mercy Hospital presented them with certificates recognizing them for quick response and preventing a potential fatal outcome of a female patient in our Fire District on the evening of April 10th. Elma personnel were out of the District on a previous call when a report of a female with chest pain came in. A quick response and recognition of a STEMI (a serious heart attack caused by complete blockage of a coronary artery) had our crew package up the patient quickly for transport to Mercy Hospital. The patient quickly went into cardiac arrest. Our personnel assisted with CPR and AMR personnel were able to defibrillate the patient one time into a normal heart rhythm. She was transported to Mercy Hospital where notification was made to have Cath Lab personnel meet them in the Emergency Department. Patient had regained consciousness prior to arrival at the Hospital. She had 100% occlusion in a coronary artery that was resolved by a stent placement. To our personnel and AMR personnel their quick action resulted in this patient being able to return home only 3 days later on April 13th rather than a fatal outcome. Great teamwork and recognition made for a successful outcome!! Again, thank you for your dedication to your duty and the residents of our Town. We are proud to make this announcement.
