TOM SULLIVAN PORCH REBUILD PROJECT

Tom Sullivan, a fulltime fireman for West Elmira FD suffered a massive heart attack in April 2025. It took multiple shocks to restore a viable heart rhythm, he was hospitalized for an extended time, has been undergoing therapy and is unable to work.
Our Fire Chief and an Assistant Chief heard the call and went to assist, though Tom lives on Fitch Street in the City of Elmira. They helped carry Tom to the ambulance over the porch and were concerned that his porch was way less than solid. That is when a project to rebuild his porch was conceived. The project needs to be completed this season and we welcome volunteer workers (especially 1st responders helping a brother 1st responder).
Materials for the project will be $7-10,000 and we will use volunteer labor. $10,000 will provide a cushion to cover any unexpected costs uncovered upon existing porch demolition. We hope to save the roof structure but must add proper flashing to alleviate existing leaks. Any money left over will be given to the Sullivans for medical bills.
The committee for the project is Jack LeValley (past fire chief), Derek Bacon & Brian Brigham (contractors and firemen who will direct the build) and Brian Dovi (retired attorney, past department treasurer and project treasurer). Brian Dovi has at his expense filed the above DBA with the County Clerk, will open a separate account for project funds and if you provided an email address would happily provide an accounting at the end of the project (donors noted by 1st & last initial in the accounting unless otherwise requested).
