πŸš‘πŸš¨ WELCOME ABOARD, MEDIC 2! πŸš¨πŸš‘

When we said goodbye to 1-U-30, we shared that replacing it was part of the long-term restructuring and modernization of B.Y.E. Ambulance Service.

Today, we are pleased to announce that we now have β€œtwins”—sort of!*

B.Y.E. has purchased another 2016 Ford F-450 Type I Wheeled Coach ambulance with approximately 23,000 miles. This unit closely matches our current ambulance and will become Medic 2, our dedicated Advanced Life Support ambulance.

Medic 2 will join our three current ambulances, which are licensed at the BLS level with approved upgrade capabilities through ALS based on staffing and system requirements. The purchase also includes the necessary equipment to help place the ambulance into service.

This addition strengthens our ability to support:

πŸš‘ 911 emergency responses

πŸš‘ Advanced Life Support care

πŸš‘ Non-emergent and interfacility transports

πŸš‘ Overlapping calls throughout our service area

πŸš‘ Reliable backup coverage for our communities

This purchase represents another important step in B.Y.E.’s continued restructuring and our commitment to improving rural emergency medical care.

Please join us in welcoming Medic 2 to the B.Y.E. fleet!

πŸš‘ Support Rural EMS Through B.Y.E. Ambulance Service

For more than 50 years, B.Y.E. Ambulance Service has provided emergency medical care to the communities of Brimfield, Elmwood, Yates City, Williamsfield, and surrounding rural areas.

Every day, our crews stand ready to respond to medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, cardiac arrests, severe illnesses, community events, and mutual-aid requests throughout Central Illinois.

While ambulance billing and district funding help support operations, they do not fully cover the cost of maintaining a modern emergency medical service. Ambulances, medical equipment, radios, medications, training, technology, and emergency readiness require continuous investment.

Your donation helps support:

βœ… Emergency medical equipment and suppliesβœ… Ambulance and vehicle improvementsβœ… Training and continuing education for EMTs and Paramedicsβœ… Community CPR and public education programsβœ… Technology and communication upgradesβœ… EMS readiness and response capabilitiesβœ… Future fleet and equipment replacement needs

Every contributionβ€”large or smallβ€”helps strengthen rural EMS and ensures that when someone calls 911, highly trained emergency medical professionals are ready to respond.

B.Y.E. Ambulance Service is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving our communities with professionalism, compassion, and excellence.

Thank you for supporting rural emergency medical services and helping us continue our mission:

Trusted Care. Every Call. Every Time.

Training Through Partnership Keeps Our Community Safer

Today, the crews from B.Y.E. Ambulance Service were honored to be invited to participate in the annual lifeguard training at Maple Lane Country Club.

During the training, we worked alongside the lifeguard staff to review and practice:

Identifying swimmers in distress and performing safe water rescues.
Immediate lifesaving medical care following removal from the water.
Proper activation of the 911 system and coordination with responding emergency services.
The club's Emergency Action Plan (EAP) to ensure an organized response during an emergency.
The best access routes into the pool area so EMS crews can quickly reach, treat, and safely transport patients when every second counts.

These collaborative training opportunities strengthen the partnership between B.Y.E. Ambulance Service, facility staff, and our public safety partners while ensuring everyone understands their role during an emergency.

We would like to thank Maple Lane Country Club and its lifeguard staff for inviting us to be part of this important training. Your commitment to preparedness and safety helps make our community a safer place for everyone enjoying the pool this summer.

Prepared Together. Ready When It Matters Most.

πŸš‘ A Fond Farewell to 1-U-30 πŸš‘

Today, we say goodbye to a vehicle that has been a part of B.Y.E. Ambulance Service for many years.

Our 1997 ambulance, known to many as 1-U-30, has officially been retired from emergency service. Due to age-related mechanical issues and the inability to obtain critical replacement parts, the vehicle could no longer safely meet the demands of emergency medical response.

Please join us in thanking 1-U-30 for its years of dedicated service and wishing it well in its next chapter.

We are pleased to announce that 1-U-30 will continue its working life with a local business as a service vehicle. While its days responding to 911 calls have come to an end, it will remain a familiar sight in our area and continue serving the community in a new role.

We would like to thank all the employees, volunteers, mechanics, and supporters who helped keep this ambulance operating over the years. Your efforts allowed this unit to provide dependable service far beyond what many would have expected.

Thank you, 1-U-30, for the miles traveled, the lives touched, and the service provided. You have earned your retirement from EMS service.

πŸš‘ B.Y.E. Ambulance Service – 2026 Strategic Update πŸš‘

Over the past year, B.Y.E. Ambulance Service has completed one of the most significant modernization and stabilization efforts in our organization's history. While continuing to provide emergency medical services throughout our communities, we have focused on improving service reliability, clinical accountability, operational readiness, and long-term sustainability.

πŸ“Š 2025 Service Highlights

β€’ Responded to 688 EMS incidents throughout our service area.

β€’ EMS demand has increased approximately 42% since 2014.

β€’ Nearly one-third of EMS calls occurred while another ambulance was already committed, highlighting the challenges of rural EMS coverage and the need for operational flexibility.

βœ… Major Improvements Completed

β€’ Implemented a comprehensive Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement (QA/QI) Program.

β€’ Transitioned to 100% electronic patient care reporting utilizing ESO.

β€’ Upgraded internet, communications, reporting, and training technology.

β€’ Modernized clinical equipment and controlled substance security.

β€’ Improved fleet reliability and operational readiness.

β€’ Reduced operating costs while improving compliance, documentation, and accountability.

πŸš‘ 2026 Operating Plan and Service Delivery Model

B.Y.E. Ambulance Service is licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) as an Intermediate Life Support (ILS) Ambulance Provider. Under this model:

β€’ All frontline ambulances are equipped and licensed to operate at the ILS level.

β€’ Ambulances may be downgraded to Basic Life Support (BLS) when staffing, patient condition, or operational needs require.

β€’ Ambulances remain upgradeable to Advanced Life Support (ALS) when staffed by a Paramedic.

β€’ No changes are being made to the organization's current IDPH licensure level.

β€’ Per Board direction, all ambulances and response vehicles will continue to be equipped to support BLS, ILS, and ALS operations as staffing and patient care needs dictate.

β€’ Battalion Chiefs currently provide operational leadership, clinical oversight, and are actively staffing the 24/7 ambulance system as part of daily operations.

πŸ’‘ Looking Ahead

B.Y.E. Ambulance Service remains committed to:

β€’ Maintaining dependable 24/7 emergency medical coverage.

β€’ Strengthening rural EMS through workforce development and Advanced EMT initiatives.

β€’ Expanding non-emergency and interfacility transport opportunities.

β€’ Continuing fleet, equipment, and technology modernization.

β€’ Pursuing grants and alternative funding sources.

β€’ Ensuring long-term operational and financial sustainability for the communities we serve.

The reality of rural EMS is that readiness must be maintained every hour of every day, regardless of call volume. Through responsible planning, modernization efforts, and the dedication of our personnel, B.Y.E. Ambulance Service remains committed to providing high-quality emergency medical care today and into the future.

❀️ It’s CPR & AED Awareness Week | June 1–7 ❀️

There is a belief that only medically trained professionals should perform CPR. The truth is, that misconception costs lives.

This CPR & AED Awareness Week, the American Heart Association is reminding everyone that the power to save a life is in your hands.

CPR isn't just a medical skill, it's a shared human responsibility. You need awareness, confidence, and the willingness to act when every second counts.

🏠 About 3 out of 4 cardiac arrests that occur outside of a hospital happen at home, meaning the life you save could be a spouse, parent, child, neighbor, coworker, or friend.

πŸ’ͺ For adults and teens, Hands-Only CPR can double or even triple a person's chance of survival.

Whether you're at home, at work, in the gym, or cheering from the sidelines at your child's soccer game, cardiac arrest can happen anywhere. That's why parents, caregivers, neighbors, coworkers, and friends are often the β€œfirst responders” before the first responders arrive.

This week, take a step toward being prepared:
βœ” Find a CPR class near you at http://spr.ly/6189B8Yg3F
βœ” Refresh your skills
βœ” Share CPR resources with others
βœ” Help build a community ready to act

Because heroism isn't reserved for uniforms, it's everyday people stepping up when someone needs them most.
