TWO DAYS. TWO CLIMBS. ONE PURPOSE NEVER FORGET!
This weekend was a meaningful one for our department.
Chief D. Killian and Firefighter N. Killian had the honor of carrying our department with them as they participated in two 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs on back-to-back days.
Yesterday, they completed the Springfield Area Memorial Stair Climb in Springfield, Missouri, and today, they once again put on their gear and climbed in the Clayton 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
As a fire department, September 11th holds a special place in our hearts. The 343 firefighters who gave their lives that day were members of departments hundreds of miles from ours, but the fire service is a family. Their courage, their commitment to serving others, and their willingness to answer the call are values that connect every firehouse and every firefighter.
That is why seeing two of our own take the time to honor them means so much to us.
With every step, Chief Killian and Firefighter Killian carried not only the memory of those who were lost, but also the pride and respect of everyone here at our department. We are extremely proud to call them two of our own and grateful to have our department represented at both of these meaningful events.
The uniforms may say different department names, and we may serve different communities, but when the call comes, we are all part of the same fire service family.
To the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and civilians whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001 and to the families and fellow first responders who carry their memory every day:
We remember. We honor. We climb.
We will never forget.
