This morning, we celebrated our October Rising Star students who were nominated for representing the excellence found across SDUHSD. Congratulations to:

⭐ Torrey Pines HS: Timothy Chang
Timothy is a thoughtful leader who looks for ways to support and encourage those around him. As President of the Peer Tutoring Club and a Link Crew leader, he helps students feel welcomed and supported, including through his work preparing incoming freshmen for their transition to TPHS. His curiosity and commitment to service make him a valued member of the TPHS community.

⭐ Canyon Crest Academy: Ethan Leem
Ethan has made a lasting impact at CCA through his thoughtful leadership and commitment to empowering others. As School Site Council President, he helped lead the development of CCA’s Student Learning Outcomes, bringing the school’s vision, mission, values, and goals to life across campus. His innovative work using AI to help preserve Maasai Indigenous history has also extended his impact beyond the CCA community.

⭐La Costa Canyon HS: Tyler Blackledge
Tyler exemplifies the Maverick spirit through his leadership, service, and dedication to others. He serves as president of his Teen Volunteers in Action chapter and founded LCC4C, a philanthropy-focused club that has organized fundraisers supporting local nonprofit, Fill-A-Belly. Tyler also serves as a DECA leader and basketball player while maintaining a strong academic record and encouraging his peers to get involved alongside him.

⭐San Dieguito HS Academy: Sarah Charles
Sarah brings a thoughtful, curious, and distinctive perspective to her learning at SDA. She approaches her studies with genuine intellectual curiosity and a deep appreciation for literature, while bringing a sharp sense of humor and a remarkable level of self-discipline to everything she does. Sarah’s thoughtfulness and love of learning make her an outstanding member of the SDA community.

Throughout September, schools across SDUHSD came together to promote mental health awareness, strengthen connections, and remind students that support is always available.

Across our middle and high schools, counseling teams, Peer Assistance Listeners (PALs), administrators, and staff have created opportunities for students to learn about su***de prevention and help-seeking, connect with trusted adults and peers, practice self-care and wellness, and share messages of hope. These efforts reflect the protective factors that help support student well-being, including strong connections, coping and life skills, self-esteem, a sense of purpose, and access to caring adults and behavioral health resources.

We are grateful to the students and staff who continue to foster a culture of care and connection across SDUHSD.

This October, celebrate the rich diversity and heritage across our school community.

SDUHSD is proud to partner with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition to offer in-person Family Bike Safety Education Nights.

Recently, over 3,500 middle school students learned essential habits for navigating our streets safely. Now, we invite SDUHSD families to join in-person sessions to build on what students have learned from the perspective of vehicle drivers. All classes are from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and are open to district students and families:

🚲San Dieguito High School Academy: Thursday, October 1, 2026
🚲Canyon Crest Academy: Wednesday, December 9, 2026
🚲Earl Warren Middle School: Tuesday, March 16, 2027
🚲Oak Crest Middle School: Tuesday, May 18, 2027

SD County Bike Coalition will also be able to answer specific bike safety questions and offer guidance and tips on specific bike types if you are currently considering purchasing one for your student.
