PRESS RELEASE

On October 8, 2026, members of the Enfield Police Department's Detective Bureau and Patrol Division attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop in the area of 155 Hazard Avenue after determining that the operator's driver's license was suspended and a passenger was not wearing a seat belt.

Upon activation of the officers' emergency lights and sirens, the operator failed to stop and continued traveling along Hazard Avenue. Officers successfully deployed tire deflation devices, causing all four tires to deflate. The vehicle subsequently came to a stop on Hazard Avenue in the vicinity of the Enfield Commons Mall.

The operator, identified as Angelo Abair, was taken into custody. During the investigation, officers discovered that Abair was in possession of approximately 26.5 grams of crack co***ne, 3.0 grams of a white powdery substance, and 2.5 grams of a blue powdery substance.

Due to concerns regarding potential fentanyl exposure and associated officer safety risks, the white and blue powdered substances were not field-tested.

Angelo Abair, 42, of Windsor Locks, CT, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

• § 21a-277(a) - Illegal Sale of Narcotic Substance
• § 21a-279(a)(3) — Illegal Possession of a Controlled Substance
• § 14-223(b) - Engaging Police in Pursuit
• § 14-222 — Reckless Driving
• § 53a-167a - Interfering with an Officer
• § 14-215(a) — Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Suspension

Abair was held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond and was scheduled to appear at Hartford Superior Court on October 9, 2026.
