Roads remain closed
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as emergency crews continue to operate at the scene of today’s large structure fire.
Many residents have asked why roads remain closed. The primary reason is that firefighters are utilizing large diameter 6 inch supply hoses that are necessary to deliver the tremendous volume of water required to combat a fire of this magnitude.
Simply put, firefighting is a science and it is not as simple as “putting water on the fire.” Fighting a major commercial fire requires an enormous amount of water. Using smaller hoses or limited water flow would be the equivalent of trying to extinguish a house fire with a garden hose. It is simply not effective and would jeopardize firefighters, residents, and our community.
The roadways are crisscrossed by these large supply lines. Driving over these hoses is NOT possible. While you may have seen cars driven over a 2 or 3 inch hose at other fire scenes, these are not those small hoses.
We understand the inconvenience closures create, and we appreciate your understanding and patience. The safety of you, our firefighters, and all emergency responders remains our highest priority. We promise roadways will be reopened as soon as we possibly can. In the interim, it is necessary for roads to remain closed.
