Thank you to the team from Montclair State University for their work netting our new trees today. As part of their Community Impact Day the group built cages for our new trees to protect the young, vulnerable bark and give them the best chance of getting established.

The way they are. The way they were. Our former raptor care volunteers Heedong Goh and Soyoona Kim visited Flat Rock today after moving to Korea two years ago. They said hi to the raptors and checked on the Baccharis halimifolia groundsel bush they left in our care before their move. They grew this plant from a seed they planted in a pot on their balcony! We are thrilled they visited - and brought their son with them!

Tree-mendous! More than a dozen trees were planted around our preserve today courtesy of a partnership between the City of Englewood, the New Jersey Tree Foundation and Flat Rock Brook. Englewood City Arborist Liz Stewart and the team planted native trees including red maple, river birch, American hornbeam, swamp oak, black tulepo, bald cypress and serviceberry. Thank you to following donors for generously funding this project: Adrienne Anderson, Jacqueline Guttman, Ariel and Jared Harary, Susie Kwiatkowski, David and Jody Perla, Elaine Pontone, Elena Sisti and Catherine and Simon Wedgbury.

Such an Englewood moment today at Flat Rock! Our Naturalist Laura hit the trails with members of the Dwight Morrow High School Class of 1971 during their reunion weekend! Welcome back!

Our multi-talented education team clears out some duckweed from Quarry Pond while also beta testing canoe routes for Sunday’s Annual Great Fall Festival at Flat Rock 12-4! Live music, eco-vendors,specialty food vendors, animal presentations, crafts, face painting - and canoe rides! Thanks Ella and Laura!

Come to our annual GREAT FALL FESTIVAL this SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH from 12-4. Live music with Blue Plate Special, animal programs, canoe rides, face painting, specialty food trucks, eco-vendors, crafts and fall foliage! And (so far...) the weather forecast looks amazing! The festival takes place in our parking lot. Join us for our fun and educational school break program Thursday, November 5 and Friday November 6 from 8:30-3:30 at Flat Rock Brook. Learn about the Leni-Lenape tribe that used to call the forest home and discover how Autumn affects plants and wildlife. Break at the Brook combines both activities and learning indoors and in the forest. Designed for ages 5-11. Each session is $125 per child. Pre-registration only on flatrockbrook.org / public programs.

Thank you Nora and Gabi for the beautiful safety sign they painted yesterday at the main entrance to encourage visitors to take the pathway and not try to walk over the cattle grate! The Bergen County Academies students are part of Reimagine Bloom a chapter of localhue a student-led organization that works on art projects that improve public spaces. They also recently painted our canoes! Next up they will be painting a mural in our gazebo - we can’t wait! Thank you!
