FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 1, 2026
Englewood, CO – Saturday, September 26th, 2026 – Felony Arrest
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – On Sept. 24, 2026, at approximately 8:24 a.m., Englewood Police School Resource
Officers were approached by a student who reported suspected child abuse. The suspect and the victim are
known to each other. Because the victim is a juvenile, no further details about the victim or the allegations will
be released.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 24th, 2026, Englewood Detectives went to the suspect's residence and
were unable to make contact with the suspect. Upon further investigation, Englewood Detectives obtained and
executed a search warrant for the home. The suspect, Derek Jason Cobb, 33, was not located. During the search,
detectives seized multiple fi****ms, some of which were determined to be stolen, along with suspected narcotics
and drug paraphernalia. Cobb is a previously convicted felon and is prohibited by law from possessing fi****ms.
Subsequently, Englewood Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Cobb, through the Arapahoe County
District Court. The U.S. Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force (which the Englewood Police
Department is a part of) was assigned to locate and arrest Cobb. Using investigative methods, investigators
located Cobb's vehicle on Sept. 25th in Thornton. Thornton Police Officers maintained surveillance on the
vehicle, and at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Sept 26th they attempted to arrest Cobb. After a short foot pursuit,
Cobb was taken into custody and booked into the Adams County Jail.
On September 30, the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office - Colorado has officially charged Cobb with 2 counts of
Sexual Assault on a Child (pattern of abuse), Child Abuse Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Distribution of
Controlled Substance to a Minor. Cobb’s bond is currently set at $150,000.
EPD would like to acknowledge the trust placed in our School Resource Officers. The SRO’s have created an
environment where students feel safe sharing concerns and seeking assistance, which was highlighted in this
case. In addition, we would like to thank the United States Marshals Service and the ThorntonPD for
their assistance in locating and arresting Cobb.
Due to the severity of the alleged crimes, the victim and the investigating police officers have been provided
with psychological support.
Any additional requests for information regarding this case should be directed to the 18th Judicial District
Attorney’s Office. The suspect in this case is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
