Our Fire Boat is part of our areas mutual aid Marine Emergency Response Team, or MERT.

Thursday morning around 10:45, Fire Boat 72 responded to a report of a boat fire. Fire boats from Charlotte County Fire & EMS and Cape Coral Fire Department also responded.

The boat was 52 feet long and had three people and a dog aboard. Thankfully the fire was extinguished and no one was hurt.

When a boat catches fire or a marine search is neccessary, one agency may not be enough. So we team up. Many crews, one goal: get everyone home safe.

Ever wonder what could happen if your lithium-ion battery fails? Our friends at Sarasota County Emergency Services recorded a great demonstration.

⚠Remember to use the correct charger for your battery.
⚠Charge on a hard surface.
⚠Stop using it if your battery is hot or you notice swelling.

National School Nutrition Week began at Englewood Elementary on Tuesday. OfficerMarc Arnold invited first responders to serve lunch and spend time with the students.

We were happy to say yes! 🍎 Our crew served lunch, shared some laughs, and got a few high-fives and hugs.

Battalion Chief Ray Reese, Lt. Mark Miller, Firefighter Chris Sirabella, and Public Information Officer Todd Dunn joined a couple of deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. The kids got to meet the people who show up on their worst days, and see us on a good one.

Thank you to the cafeteria staff who feed our kids every day. You're the real heroes at lunchtime. 🙌

🚒𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆: 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁-𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘁!

All of our kindergartners and 1st graders got to climb around Fire Engine 73. 🤩

The crew from Engine 71 showed the kids what a firefighter looks like in full bunker gear. Big helmet, heavy coat, mask and all. It's a lot, but it's not scary. It's just a firefighter, and we're here to help!

A few brave teachers suited up too. 🧑‍🏫🔥 They looked pretty good in it. Maybe we just found our next recruits? (Our application is open, teachers. 😉)

Then things got loud. Outside, the teachers took over the spreaders (the "Jaws of Life") with a little help from our crew. They crushed rocks like they were cookies. 🪨💥

Thank you to the staff and students at Englewood Elementary for having us. We love seeing your smiling faces!

Kids are our future, and we're proud to be part of this community. ❤️

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray
table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never
charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails,
it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

🎉 Congratulations, Captain Joshua Jacobs! 🎉

Fifteen years of service with the Englewood Fire Department! 🚒

Captain Jacobs is a Captain/Paramedic. He also steps up as Acting Battalion Chief when we need him. Whatever the job, he gets it done.

He's also a valued member of our Marine Operations team. And he does it all with a big smile on his face. 😄 Ask anyone at the station. That smile shows up on every shift.

Thank you, Captain, for 15 years of dedication, leadership, and heart. We're lucky to have you. Here's to many more! 👏
