🌱 Plant Native. Grow Local.

The Madison Conservation District is now offering a Native Seed Cost Share Program to help landowners establish native vegetation across their property.

In partnership with the Bridger Plant Materials Center, MCD has developed three recommended native seed mixes featuring grasses and forbs for the Madison Valley: Riparian, Upland/Forested, and Valley. Eligible landowners can receive 50% cost-share assistance, up to $250 per applicant per year, for qualifying native seed purchases.

Learn more and find the recommended mixes on our website.

Two weeks ago, an amazing group of volunteers joined us for the 7th annual Tributary Blitz, collecting water quality data at 16 sites throughout the Madison Watershed!

This annual effort wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated community members who volunteer their time and the support of our wonderful community partners. A special thank you to The Madison River Foundation and the Gallatin Conservation District for joining us as team leaders!

Our 2026 samples are still being analyzed, but you can explore results from past Tributary Blitz events on our website: https://madisoncd.net/our-work/madison-stream-team/madison-stream-team-reports/

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s event a success!

Thank you to our partners at the Bureau of Land Management - Montana/Dakotas, The Montana Land Reliance, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for making our 2026 Field Tour around Axolotl Lakes such a success! On this interpretive hike attendees were immersed in Montana's beautiful nature and learned about hair snares, the axolotls or tiger salamanders in the area, and conservation efforts!
