SchooLinks: Connecting Students to Opportunities

We’re expanding our use of SchooLinks, Washington’s online platform for students to build their High School and Beyond Plan. Students can explore careers, colleges, scholarships, financial aid, and college applications.

Students in grades 10–12 can now sign up for Career Center events and field trips through SchooLinks. Field trips require a signed paper permission form, and students must meet attendance, behavior, and academic expectations to participate.

Students who favorite colleges and career paths in SchooLinks will receive personalized invitations to related field trips, internships, job shadows, and other opportunities.

Coming later this year: Family access and additional SchooLinks tools. Stay tuned!

You may be seeing college application deadlines in October and November and wondering… Do I really need to apply that early?

Early deadlines can be a great option for students who already have colleges they are seriously considering and who are ready to submit a strong application.
But before you hit “submit,” know the difference:
Early Action (EA)
Apply early and receive a decision earlier. In most cases, you are not committing to attend that school.
Early Decision (ED)
This is different. ED is typically a binding commitment—if you are admitted, you agree to attend that college, so this option should be reserved for a school you are confident is your first choice.

$$$ And don't forget about application costs!
Many colleges charge an application fee, and the amount varies by school. Some colleges don't charge a fee, and fee waivers may be available for eligible students.

The Common App is one application platform that allows students to apply to many colleges using the same core application. You create your profile, add colleges, complete any school-specific questions, and submit each application. Not every college uses Common App, and requirements, deadlines, and fees can vary by school.

Be sure to complete your FAFSA or WAFSA - Come to Beyond The Hive for a drop in Work Session to complete your financial aid Monday November 23rd, EHS Commons
Use SchooLinks to link your Common App

First-year German students participated in a beloved German tradition: the school cone!

In Germany, first graders get a "Schultüte" on their first day of school. Our students learned about this tradition, which dates back to the early 1800s, and then made their own personalized "Schultüten" in class!

The students then found their "Schultüten" filled with candy, school supplies, and a lucky pig to start their German education off on the right foot. So fun!

College Bound — Know Your Options!

Did you know you may already have access to College Bound, a Washington State financial aid program that can help pay for education after high school?

First things first: CHECK YOUR EMAIL!

• Complete the FAFSA or WASFA during senior year
• Enroll in an eligible college or career school
• Meet College Bound income and residency requirements
• Remains in good standing with no criminal record

The 2027–28 FAFSA and WASFA open. Start your application today. If you would like support be sure to come to our Beyond The Hive drop in session Monday November 23rd.

COLLEGE REP VISITS ARE COMING TO EHS!

Wondering what a college is really like? Curious about a school but not ready to commit? Our upcoming college rep visits give EHS students the chance to meet one-on-one with college admissions representatives right here on campus!

These are a great opportunity to:
- Ask questions you may not find answers to online
- Learn about majors, programs & career pathways
- Ask about housing & campus life
- Learn about athletics, clubs & student activities
- Get information about financial aid, scholarships & paying for college
- Learn about admissions requirements, deadlines & the application process
- Get personalized answers based on your interests and goals

You do NOT need to be sure you want to attend a particular school to sign up! A college rep visit is a chance to explore, ask questions and figure out what might—or might not—be a good fit for you.

Sign up in the Career & College Center or through SchooLinks.

Parents & families: Encourage your student to take advantage of these visits! A short conversation with an admissions representative can help students learn things that are difficult to discover from a website alone—and can be a great first step toward building a post-high-school plan.

Questions? EHS Career Center: [email protected]

You don't have to know exactly where you're going yet. Start by asking questions.

FAFSA & WASFA ARE OPEN : APPLY TODAY!

Financial aid can help pay for college, career training, apprenticeships, and other education after high school.

FAFSA or WASFA? Which one should you complete?

FAFSA is generally the application to complete if you are eligible for federal financial aid. It can connect you with federal, state, college, and other financial aid.

WASFA may be the right choice if you:
• Are undocumented or aren't eligible for federal aid because of your immigration status
• Have a parent or family member who does not wish to file a FAFSA
• Have concerns about submitting the FAFSA
• You or your parent(s) do not and will not file federal income taxes
• Have federal student loans in default
• Owe a repayment on federal grants

WASFA applicants are considered for Washington State financial aid. If you're unsure which application is right for you, use the WASFA Questionnaire or talk with your counselor or the EHS Career & College Center.

Don't leave financial aid money on the table. Apply today!

Need help? EHS Career & College Center is here to help students and families navigate the process.

FAFSA & WASFA Open October 1!

Planning for college, career training, or an apprenticeship after high school? Financial aid can help pay for education and training after graduation. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) open October 1.

Even if you don't think your family will qualify, it is worth applying. Many scholarships and grants require a FAFSA/WAFSA before the awards are granted. Applying early can also help families meet college and program deadlines and be considered for limited or school-based funding.

Get ready this week:
---Create a StudentAid.gov account for the student and any required FAFSA contributor(s). Each person needs their own account.

---New this year!!! You generally do not need to manually enter tax information: FAFSA now uses the IRS to transfer federal tax information after you provide consent. You may still want your tax records handy for additional questions.

---Talk with your student about which parent(s)/contributor will need to complete their portion.

---Mark your calendar for October 1 and plan to complete the application as soon as you are ready.

---Need help? Join us during Beyond the Hive conferences on Monday, November 23 for a financial aid support session. We’ll help families navigate the FAFSA/WASFA process and answer questions.

FAFSA and WASFA are free applications. Do not pay someone to complete them for you, EHS Career Center is here to help.
