from BG: "In some of the wetland areas and lagoons on Presque Isle you may see Hooded Mergansers swimming around. The males have a beautiful white patch on their head; the females have different shades of brown with spiky feathers on the head. April is a great time to see migrating waterfowl. Enjoy Exploring."

from BG: "We were heading on the park the other day and something caught my I, a mass in a group of vines near a tree. It was this raccoon eating the fruit that was mixed in this clump of vines. It was a rainy day, so the raccoon looks like a wet raccoon and this time of year it is normal to see them during daylight hours as they are looking for food. Enjoy Exploring."

from RB: "One of the birds that we have spotted during the spring migration is the Common nighthawk. This unique bird belonging to the Goatsucker family can be spotted in the early evening hours as it flies through the sky seeking out its prey, usually large moths. Here at Presque Isle, we have seen them in the month of May resting on a tree during the daytime and flying through the lagoons in the early evening hours. "

from RB: "As the waters around the peninsula start to warm up, many species of fish will be making their way into the bay and lagoons to spawn. This includes bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass to name a few.
One of the unique fish that can be seen in the shallows are spotted gar. This ambush predator waits in the weeds for its prey to swim by. They are a prehistoric fish having been around for millions of years. "

from SW: "This stone holds a hidden surprise! Some minerals found along Lake Erie can glow under ultraviolet light. These fluorescent minerals were often carried here thousands of years ago by glaciers during the Ice Age. A reminder that even the most ordinary looking rock might have something extraordinary inside.
Have you ever found a cool or unusual rock along the beach?"

from SW: "There’s something special about a Lake Erie sunset. As the sun dips lower, the atmosphere scatters blue light and leaves behind those beautiful reds and oranges that light up the horizon. No two sunsets are ever quite the same.
Where is your favorite place to watch the sunset at Presque Isle?"

from SW: "Rainy days have their own quiet beauty. Droplets cling to the needles of this Pine Tree, whose waxy coating helps water bead up before falling to the forest floor. Sometimes slowing down after a rainstorm lets us notice the smallest details in nature. Picture from the TREC parking lot.
Do you enjoy rainy hikes or prefer sunny trails?"

from SW: "Well… these aren’t the birds we usually expect at the feeder!
These curious Wild Turkey stopped by the TREC Natural Play Space to investigate the seeds falling to the ground. Turkeys are excellent foragers and will happily take advantage of an easy snack. Sometimes the wildlife you least expect shows up first!
What’s the most unexpected visitor you’ve seen at your bird feeder?"
