A grant-making organization, ECGRA’s mission is to empower the nonprofit sector toward economic and community development. Since February 2008, ECGRA has invested over $43 million in Erie County thanks to the innovative leadership of members of the ECGRA Board of Directors and staff, and Erie County Council.

Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of those killed in Friday’s mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, including two children.

As our community mourns this heartbreaking loss, we are grateful to Erie police, fire and first responders, along with Mayor Daria S. Devlin and her team, for their service during this tragedy.

Today in Harrisburg, Executive Director Perry Wood joined the PA Childcare Innovation Summit, serving on a dedicated revenue panel focused on innovative approaches to strengthening Pennsylvania’s child care system.

Dr. Wood shared Erie County’s experience leveraging matching ARPA dollars to create $5 million in child care funding—a first-of-its-kind investment designed to expand access to care, support workforce retention, and help child care providers grow and expand.

The result is an approach that recognizes child care for what it is: an essential part of a strong workforce and a thriving regional economy. We’re proud to see Erie County’s work represented in conversations shaping the future of child care across Pennsylvania.

Childcare is more than a community need. It’s a workforce and economic development issue.

After the Jefferson Educational Society’s Positioning Erie to Prosper and Compete report highlighted the significant shortage of affordable, quality childcare in Erie County, ECGRA worked with community partners to identify ways to help address the need.

Through the Erie County Investing in Families: Childcare Start Up & Expansion Grant Program, ECGRA invested nearly $1 million in 28 childcare programs across Erie County.

With matching funds, that investment has generated nearly $1.9 million toward expanding childcare capacity and created 566 new childcare slots for local families.

On September 17, we’ll announce the recipients of the Mission Main Street and Anchor Building Grant Programs, supporting projects that help strengthen Erie County communities.

If you didn’t get the chance to apply this round—or these opportunities weren’t the right fit for your organization—don’t sweat it! Our grant opportunities are always evolving, and there will be more opportunities to come.

Right now, applications for the Renaissance Block Grant Program and Parks, Fields & Trails Grant Program are open through September 30.

What a weekend!

CelebrateErie was an absolute blast, and we were proud to support this year’s festivities through our Special Events Grant Program.

Of course, we couldn’t miss the Chalk Walk! We were excited to take home 1st place this year, but the real win was seeing our community come together to enjoy everything our downtown has to offer.

From amazing performances, including the Plain White T's to local vendors, delicious food and drinks, and plenty of activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
