Follow these water safety messages to have the best time on Erie County waters.

Be a Water Watcher: Assign an adult to watch the children. Never assume.

Wear a Life Jacket: Life jackets can't help if they aren't worn.

High Waves: Stay dry when waves are high. Waves and currents are powerful, even for strong swimmers.

Know Before You Go: Check the weather apps and lake conditions.

Flip, Float and Follow: If you are pulled by a current, flip over on your back, float and follow the shoreline until you are free.

Steer Clear of the Pier: Avoid swimming in areas near piers or water outlets/inlets.

🌎 Help Protect Public Health and Water Quality in Erie County

The Erie County Department of Health is looking for an Environmental Protection Specialist/Sewage Enforcement Officer to support the county’s sewage and wastewater programs.

In this role, you will conduct inspections and investigations of sewage treatment systems, review permit applications, respond to complaints, evaluate environmental conditions, and help ensure compliance with state and local regulations. You’ll work closely with property owners, municipalities, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to protect public health and the environment.

This position offers a unique opportunity to combine field work, environmental science, public service, and community engagement while ensuring the protection of Erie County’s water quality and environmental health.

Qualified candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Geology, Soil Science, Biology, Chemistry. Environmental Science, or a related field. Candidates must also obtain and maintain Sewage Enforcement Officer certification through the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
