We are actively monitoring the remnants of Hurricane Isaias and the potential impacts to Unicoi County throughout the weekend.
According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, our primary concerns are damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and the potential for localized flooding.
WHAT TO EXPECT
• Friday: Generally dry conditions, with increasing cloud cover later.
• Saturday: Rain is expected to develop during the afternoon and continue into the evening, accompanied by increasing winds.
• Friday night into early Sunday: A High Wind Warning is in effect, with sustained winds of 20–35 mph and gusts potentially reaching 70 mph, particularly in the mountains and foothills. Damaging winds could bring down trees and power lines and cause widespread power outages.
• Sunday through Sunday evening: Periods of rain and possible thunderstorms are expected to continue. Residents should remain alert for localized flooding, hazardous road conditions, and lingering wind impacts.
Our personnel will remain prepared to respond to emergency calls and storm-related incidents as conditions develop. We encourage everyone to take precautions now rather than wait until severe weather arrives.
•Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other loose objects.
•Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of strong winds and heavy rain.
•Stay away from downed power lines and report them to the appropriate utility or emergency authorities.
•Never drive through flooded roadways.
•Charge cell phones and prepare for possible power outages.
• Monitor official weather updates and enable emergency alerts on your phone. Consider having a NOAA Weather Radio or another reliable way to receive warnings if power or cellular service is interrupted.
Please take this forecast seriously, stay weather-aware, and look out for your family and neighbors. Conditions can change quickly, and preparation now can help protect lives and property.
