To wrap up our Unit 1 on government, our fourth-grade students researched four of Escondido’s City Council members. Today, they had the exciting opportunity to interview Councilwoman Consuelo Martinez!

Our students worked together to develop and agree upon thoughtful interview questions. Mrs. Martinez shared her personal story, including growing up in Escondido, being the daughter of immigrant parents, and her deep commitment to our community. Her experiences and advice gave our students many opportunities to connect with her and see how they, too, can make a difference.

She also shared wonderful advice about what our fourth graders can do now and in the future to become responsible, engaged citizens. It was a meaningful learning experience that helped bring our government unit to life!
