Tewa Women United A multicultural + multiracial organization, braiding environmental, reproductive, + gender justice in the Tewa homelands

Tewa Women United (TWU) started in 1989 as a support group for women from the Pueblos of the northern Rio Grande concerned with the traumatic effects of colonization, religious inquisition, and militarization leading to issues such as alcoholism, suicide, domestic/sexual violence and environmental violence. In the safe space we created, we transformed and empowered one another through critical analysis and by embracing and reaffirming our cultural identity. In 2001 we transitioned from an informal, all volunteer group to a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Tewa Women United was incorporated for educational, social and benevolent purposes, specifically for the ending of all forms of violence against Native Women and girls, Mother Earth and to promote peace in New Mexico.

We are remembering and celebrating the life of Dolores Huerta, who died on Wednesday at the age of 96, at her home in Bakersfield, California.

As a young Mexican American woman in the 1960s and 70s, along with other activists Dolores organized farmworkers and migrant laborers in a fight for fair wages and safe working conditions. This effort would become the United Farm Workers (UFW), and changed many lives for the better, even as the struggle continues.

She went on to become a strong advocate for women's rights and reproductive justice through the Feminist Majority Foundation and her Dolores Huerta Foundation, a civic advocacy organization.

Dolores Huerta was born in Dawson, New Mexico, in 1930, and kept close ties with New Mexico throughout her life.

Sí se puede! Gracias por todo, Dolores ❤️🤍💚

SUPPORT OUR DINE RELATIVES

Shiprock and communities along the San Juan River in northwestern New Mexico have been hit hard by recent once-in-a-generation flooding. This region has the highest amount of designated farmland in Navajo Nation. Many families have lost their homes and farmers have lost their livelihoods.

Diné farmers in Farmington are organizing donations for families and farms impacted by the flooding. We encourage you to support Bidii Baby Foods and Tumbleweed Nutrition, the two organizations receiving donations which will be distributed to community members.

Bidii Baby Foods is accepting volunteers and direct purchasing of their remaining inventory that will be delivered directly to families with young children impacted by the flooding.

It's Early Voting Season!

Voting early eases the pressure of making it to the polls on Election Day. It also provides reassurance that no matter what may happen on November 3rd, your ballot has been cast and will be counted.

Local Tribal Early voting sites are listed for Rio Arriba and Santa Fe County in the images, thanks to Naeva. Visit their page for more info.

T’Sayain (Circle of Grandmothers/Wisdomkeepers) is the nurturing breath that infuses and inspires the work of Tewa Women United. T'Sayain is a circle of inter-tribal, multicultural women who are either grandmothers themselves or supportive elders. Their wisdom and presence illuminates all that we do.

Here's just a little bit of what the T'Sayain offer to our community:

• Healing Circles
• Pin Hau Project – Heart’s Breath (to support new beginnings)
• Creating healing gifts for trauma survivors
• Organizing and/or helping at community education sessions
• Hosting inter-generational support groups

We love our T'Sayain!
