At 1:20 pm this afternoon Estacada Firefighters were dispatched to a residential fire in the 36000 block of Tracy Road. On arrival firefighters found a single family residence with heavy fire from the front of the building and a partial roof collapse. A car parked in front of the home was also on fire. Firefighters worked quickly to take the bulk of the heat out of the fire and prevent it from spreading to a nearby structure and another vehicle. All the occupants of the house were able to get out without injury although one individual was evaluated by paramedics but no further EMS care or transport was needed. Clackamas Fire District and AMR also responded and assisted with the fire. 3 engines, 3 water tenders, rehab, chaplain and 3 chiefs all responded. (20 firefighters). The cause is under investigation. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the evening continuing to put out hotspots and watch for rekindles. AMR Multnomah and Clackamas Counties Clackamas Fire

Water Rescue at McIver Park

At approximately 4:45 - Estacada Fire crews responded to the lower boat ramp at Milo McIver State Park after a kayaker overturned and was unable to get out of the water.

The kayaker was not wearing a life jacket, which made the rescue more difficult. Her small dog, Gizmo who *was* wearing one, was also in the water with her. Crews brought both safely to shore, and no one was injured. Total rescue time was 10 minutes.

Thank you to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office for their support on scene.

**A reminder as we head into fall:** River temperatures are dropping fast, and cold water can exhaust even strong swimmers within minutes. A life jacket is the single most important piece of gear you can bring. Wear it every time you're on the water, and make sure your pets have one too, just like this pup did. 🦺

🇺🇸🔥 Congratulations, Firefighter Stephanie Barber! 🔥🇺🇸

Last night, Estacada Fire District Volunteer Firefighter Stephanie Barber was honored as the American Legion Carl Douglas Post 74 Firefighter of the Year! American Legion Commander Jim Moriarty presented Stephanie with the award, surrounded by both her home family and her fire family.

Each year, the American Legion’s Firefighter of the Year program recognizes career and volunteer firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics who go above and beyond the requirements of the job. Stephanie embodies that spirit every day, and we couldn’t be prouder.

What made the evening even more special: 20 years ago, Stephanie’s father, John Hill, received this same honor. John and Amy Hill were there to watch their daughter follow in his footsteps, along with Stephanie’s husband Luke and their kids, Maverick and Macie. ❤️

Thank you, Stephanie, for your dedication to our community, and thank you to the American Legion Carl Douglas Post 74 for recognizing the commitment of our firefighters.

Earlier this year, Estacada Fire District applied for an Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries grant to support firefighter apprentices and were awarded funding for six. This week our apprenticeship committee completed its first semi-annual review, and we want to share the results with the community that these firefighters serve.

Since July 1, our six apprentices have worked nearly 4,400 hours on shift, including more than 260 hours on conflagration assignment. All six are on track or ahead of their training benchmarks:

- All six have completed their NIMS incident management training
- Five hold their EMT, and the sixth is 75 percent complete
- Five have met Firefighter I requirements and hold Wildland Firefighter Type 2
- Four have completed emergency driver training, ahead of the December target
- Several are already pursuing training beyond program requirements, including pumper operator, fire instructor, and paramedic coursework

These numbers reflect long shifts, study on days off, and a consistent willingness to do the work. We are proud of Nick Vogel, Luke Weems, Jacob Curran, Nolan Thran, Ayla Platz, and Emily Day.

We are grateful to the Bureau of Labor and Industries for investing in this program, the Oregon State Firefighters Council, the IAFF Clackamas County Professional Firefighters Local 1159, to the field training officers and crews who mentor these firefighters every shift, and to our community for its continued support.

**Estacada Fire Responds to Single-Vehicle Crash**

Just before 11 p.m. on Friday, October 2, Clackamas County Communications (CCOM) received an automated crash alert from a Ford vehicle indicating a single, injured patient who was not trapped. Multiple callers then reported a vehicle off the road and into a tree. The location was in the 48000 street area of Tumalo Mountain Rd.

Estacada Fire responded with two paramedic-staffed engines and a Chief Officer, alongside the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office (CCSO). Because of the remote location and the distance to the nearest trauma center, Life Flight was requested while crews were still en route.

Thanks to bystanders who flagged in responders, crews quickly located the patient and began care. AMR transported the patient about one mile to the landing zone, and Life Flight flew the patient in critical condition to OHSU. We do not have an update on their condition.

Seven Estacada Fire personnel responded, and all crews were back in quarters shortly after midnight.

We are grateful to those who stopped to help and to our partners at AMR Clackamas, Life Flight, CCSO, and CCOM.
