Etna Library The Etna Library is the town of Hanover's original public library, housed in a building constructed in 1905. You can also join us for frequent programs.

We have a constantly changing collection of books, movies, periodicals, audiobooks, and videogames.

The Etna Library’s Halloween Costume Swap event is today, from 9 to 5! We have well over 100 gently-used costumes for all ages, all for free! If you have a used custom to donate, please bring that along, but there’s no need to bring a costume to take one home. Thanks to the Library’s amazing patrons and the Ray School PTO for donating an incredible collection of customs this year! (And we even have a Photo Booth where you can try different costumes on and take pictures)

Halloween Costume Swap: Wednesday, October 14 from 9-5. Bring in a gently-used costume to donate, if you have one. No need to bring a costume to take one, though! We’ll have tons of costumes, all different types, for all ages – stop by and browse!

Sometimes, when working in a library building that’s over 120 years old, you come across some oddities. While recently in the original part of the library’s basement, I noticed that some of the newspaper pages originally used to help insulate one of the walls still has legible text. The paper is The Boston Globe and it’s dated August 5, 1905. (The year of the library’s construction). The front page headline reads: “Two Women On American Soil Who Are Most Intimately Interested In Peace Conference.” Words have filled this building since 1905 and, apparently, some of the earliest words to make their way inside the red brick and granite trim walls of the library were tasked as being PART of those walls!
