Congratulations, Captain Bill Mastroianni! Yesterday, Bill was honored with his last fire house supper after 27 years of service to the EFD. His list of contributions and accomplishments, both as a firefighter and as a union official, is long and distinguished. Garnering grant awards totaling $7M, advocating for firefighter safety and health, most notably the Michael Louis Polumbo, Jr. Act involving firefighter cancer presumption, Ohio collective bargaining rights, and many other causes, Bill set the bar. Bill will continue to serve firefighters across and beyond Ohio as Chief of Staff for the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters. Best of luck and health in retirement, Bill!

Today, on behalf of the Cleveland Clinic, Tim Steuk, EMS Coordinator, and Dr. Brian Bugay, EMS Medical Director presented accolades for a textbook cardiac arrest save on February 25th to Capt. Barry, FFs Kovach, A. Caleris, Hoose (not pictured), and Lapuh (not pictured).
Not only did their patient survive, she was discharged home within a week of the incident! Another example of the top-tier care our firefighter/paramedics provide in the community.

Euclid firefighters responded to three fires yesterday.

The first one occurred at 07:30 a.m., at Shoreway Courts apartments, on Lakeshore Boulevard. The fire originated in the leasing office and did not spread to the rest of the building. There were no injuries and FIU ruled the fire accidental.

The second fire occurred at 11:40 a.m., in a magnesium processing factory on Rockwell Drive and involved a milling machine. Damage was contained to the machine itself and was extinguished using Class D fire extinguishers supplied by the facility. There were no injuries and damage is estimated at $500,000.

The third fire occurred at a house on Linda Drive at 4:21p.m. The fire originated in an upstairs bedroom wall, amongst electrical wiring, and was determined to be accidental. The house suffered major damage and, unfortunately, a family of three is displaced. The family’s beloved dog, Bear, sought refuge in the basement. He was rescued by firefighters and reunited with his owners at the scene. The American Red Cross is assisting the family. The loss is estimated at $150,000. Nobody was injured and there were working smoke alarms in the home, although nobody was home at the time of the fire.

What a sweet guy Glenn is! Thanks for the visit!

🐾🔥 Special visitor at the firehouse today!

Our buddy Glenn Powell stopped by the Euclid Fire Department for some social time, tail wags, and lots of love from the crew. 🐶❤️🚒

He had a great time making new friends and soaking up the attention! This is just the beginning — we’ll be visiting more with other dogs soon, so keep an eye out for more adorable photo ops. 📸🐕

Thanks to the firefighters for the warm welcome and belly rubs!
