Today we are proud to recognize Euclid Firefighters Local 337, one of our 150 affiliate unions!
The professional firefighters of Local 337 operate out of three firehouses across the city, providing life-saving fire and emergency medical services. With over 13,000 calls for service annually, these members are a vital backbone of the Euclid community.
Thank you for your service and your solidarity!

Every department right now is posting the wow we broke records posts.
“____ FD responded to 800 more medical calls than previous years!!” - Yet its the same staffing level as previous years.
Haven’t seen one post about how we are taking care of our members that are now doing this much more work.
While people and officials are celebrating the rise in responses handled by the department, our members are tired, sore, out injured, or burnt out.
Are we doing enough to make sure they are
ok?
Its wonderful that we can do so much with so little, but the truth behind all these posts show why we need to focus on mental health programs and teaching our first responders to take care of themselves and their families.

I do think most citizens genuinely want the best for their firefighters and their fire department, even if it comes with an increased cost. The article doesn’t specify whether taxes would need to be raised or how much funding the extra shift would require, but with 86% support, it’s reasonable to assume the survey touched on financial implications. Otherwise, the approval rating might have been even higher if people thought there would be no additional tax burden.
Lubbock, Texas firefighters are pushing to move from a 24/48 schedule to a 24/72 model after a survey of more than 1,500 residents showed 86 percent public support for the change. The proposal would add a fourth shift and create about 133 new firefighter positions, reducing individual annual workload by roughly 700 hours. Union leaders argue the current schedule no longer matches today’s call volume, especially EMS demands, and that longer recovery time is necessary for firefighter health, safety, and long-term retention. Plano Fire-Rescue already adopted 24/72 and reports positive feedback, and Lubbock firefighters hope these survey findings will persuade city leadership to formally consider and approve the shift adjustment.

Yesterday, at Maria’s Restaurant in Euclid, we celebrated the retirements of FF 1/C Dave Engeman, FF 1/C Elton Murray, and FF 1/C Dave Strahan. All of them will be missed; we appreciate their contributions to our department and Local.
President Reichman presented the axes complete with plenty of humerous, and heartfelt, remarks. Well done, gentlemen!
