Celebrating Principals Month: ELC Director Spotlight, Mrs. Lewis!

Q: What inspired you to become a director?
I truly enjoy getting to know each child, watching them learn and grow, and being part of their preschool journey.

Q: What is one thing you wish everyone in Eudora knew about the ELC?
I have the most amazing team at the ELC. They work incredibly hard every day to support our children and help prepare them for kindergarten. They are engaging, caring and committed to doing whatever they can to help each child be successful.

Q: What is one moment that you'll always remember?
When our new students walk through our doors each year. For many of our little friends, it is their very first experience with preschool. It is amazing to see how much they grow and change throughout the year—not only academically, but also socially, emotionally and in their confidence. I love thinking back to that very first day and seeing how far each child has come by the end of the year. Those moments are a big part of why I love what I do.

Celebrating Principals Month: EHS Principal Spotlight, Dr. DeWitt!

Q: What inspired you to become a principal?
I believe teachers need to have the courage to take the next step and bring their classroom perspective into building leadership. The best decisions for a school come from people who understand what it’s like to stand in front of students every day. I wanted to make sure the voice of the classroom was always part of how our building is led and to support our teachers the way I would have wanted to be supported.

Q: What is one thing you wish everyone in Eudora knew about EHS?
I wish everyone could see how much happens beyond the classroom. Our teachers are constantly working to make EHS a great place for students by setting professional goals, reflecting on their practice and collaborating to get better every year. If you walk our halls on any given day, you’ll see kids and adults who genuinely care about each other and about doing things well.

Q: What is one moment from your time as a principal you’ll always remember?
Graduation! I get to watch students walk across that stage who I first met as quiet or shy underclassmen. Some faced real challenges along the way and worked hard to turn things around. Seeing how much they’ve grown by the time they’re seniors reminds me that the work we do every day really does change lives.

Q: What does a day in the life of a principal look like?
No two days are the same, and that’s part of what I enjoy! A typical day might start with greeting students at the door, followed by classroom walkthroughs to see the great teaching happening across our building. Around midday, you’ll find me in the lunchroom, one of the best places to connect with students. In between, I’m working with staff on professional growth, planning student programs and helping solve whatever comes up. By the end of the day, I’ve usually talked with dozens of people, and every conversation is about making EHS better for our community.

CANCELED: The Senior Foundation Tailgate scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, has been canceled.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature is not cooperating with us this year. With high winds and chilly temperatures in the forecast, we have made the decision to cancel this year’s Tailgate.

We always look forward to this special tradition and the opportunity to bring our senior community together to celebrate and connect. Thank you for your continued support of the Eudora Schools Foundation and our students. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next event!

Celebrating National Principals Month: EMS Principal Spotlight, Mr. Thomas!

Q: Who inspired you to become a principal?
Mr. Mike Troxel inspired me to become both a principal and an activities director. He served in both of those roles while I was a coach. Seeing the impact he had on students and staff has shaped the way I lead today.

Q: What do you wish everyone in Eudora knew about EMS?
I wish everyone in Eudora knew just how amazing our students are and how many great things they do every single day. I also wish they could see how awesome our staff is at EMS. We have built an amazing culture, and it truly is a joy to come to work every day. I am very proud of the students and staff who make EMS such a special place.

Q: What's a moment you'll always remember?
Seeing our EMS community come together during the COVID-19 pandemic stands out. Our staff and students persevered through a difficult time, grew closer and continued doing what was best for students. I will always be proud of how our EMS community came together during that time.

Q: What does a day in the life of a principal look like?
It's a lot like riding the Mamba roller coaster! You never know what's coming next, and the day usually ends with, “Wow, what a day!” Maybe that's why we love running to the Mamba first on our 8th Grade SOAR Rewards Field Trip each year!

EES students had a fun Day on the Farm! Students had the opportunity to learn more about agriculture, experience different aspects of farm life and see firsthand how farming connects to our everyday lives. From learning about animals and agriculture to exploring new experiences, it was a great day of learning outside the classroom! We’re thankful to everyone who helped make this experience possible for our students.

Health Science students and HOSA members had an exciting opportunity to attend Explore Your Future on Wednesday, September 23, 2026! The event gave students interested in healthcare careers the chance to step outside the classroom and experience healthcare through interactive, hands-on learning. With more than 83 hands-on experiences, activities and networking opportunities, students were able to explore a wide variety of healthcare professions and discover potential career paths.

We are proud of our Health Science students for taking advantage of this opportunity to explore, learn, connect and take another step toward their future in healthcare!
