Eudora KS Fire Department and our mutual aid partners responded to a house fire in the 1200blk of Main at 4:59 this morning. Upon arrival, fire crews located and extinguished a fire in the attached garage area. No injuries were reported.

The City of Eudora says it will hire three full-time firefighters in 2027 if voters approve a 0.5% public safety sales tax in November.

If approved, Eudora's total sales tax rate would not increase, as a different 0.5% sales tax — used to pay off debt associated with Eudora's community building and pool — is set to expire at the end of the year.

Sometimes, ballot questions fail after a public vote. What happens then? In the case of the proposed half-cent sales tax in Eudora, we'd continue to fund equipment using property tax funding. However, that would not leave enough resources to put towards additional staffing.

After three years of federal review, the City of Eudora received official notice from the US Federal Highway Administration that the $21,250,660 BUILD Grant Agreement has been approved! This means the project can officially move forward with design/engineering work ahead of planned construction.

This MAJOR IMPROVEMENT will reconstruct Church Street between 28th St. to the south and K-10 to the north plus sections of 20th St., increasing traveler safety and extending utilities to new development opportunities along the K-10 corridor.

This should improve the flow of traffic and driver safety along a major stretch of the City's street network. Expect more details to come out as the project moves forward, including additional engagement with Eudora Schools to prepare for the project and educate commuters on the changes to come.

This is just one of the major infrastructure improvement projects that is underway! The future is looking bright in Eudora, truly a PLACE TO GROW!
