Dear friend, I never dreamed you’d leave us so soon. I regret not spending more time with you. You were always so busy, doing so much, holding so much. I’ll never forget this day on the doors with you in the blistering heat just last summer, when we got to talking about family and politics and the meaning of it all. Or the day you testified in the legislature for the bile bus. And while it was all smiles and fun, you spoke the hard truth: about going door to door in the motel, with wake-up calls for the children who were lucky to have slept with a roof over their head that night, and you were making sure every one of those children knew that someone cared enough to make sure they got to school in the morning, by walking them there yourself, holding out an open palm for them to hold onto. Because those kids need a champion. For you, it was always about them. The way you lived is why God heard you coming in the early hours of this morning. I’ll never stop remembering you or living into your legacy. Rest in peace, dear Hoa. 😭
