Three little goofs in the hay feeder, left to right: Flora, Tiramisu, and ButterRum waiting for their dinner. Which one is your favorite? Flora has the best googly eyes, but Tiramisu’s hairdo takes the cake.

We are completely humbled and blown away by our community this morning. ❤️🎃

Last night, we put out a rather desperate call for help saving our pumpkin patch before tonight’s freeze. This morning, so many wonderful people showed up that the entire patch was harvested in about 20 minutes.

Twenty minutes!

What could have been a heartbreaking loss instead became one of those beautiful, slightly chaotic farm memories we’ll carry with us for a very long time: neighbors, families, and children streaming through the patch, gathering pumpkins and hauling them to safety together.

To every person who came, shared our post, offered to help, brought their children, carried pumpkins, or simply cheered us on, thank you. Truly. We are so deeply grateful.

We planted this little pumpkin patch hoping it might bring some joy to our community this autumn. This morning, our community turned around and brought that joy right back to us.

Every last pumpkin is safe. You all made that happen. ❤️

Sadly, the coming freeze means we won’t be able to offer the U-pick patch experience we had planned this season, but we will have pumpkins for sale until they’re gone!

If you’d like to get your autumn pumpkin fix and take home a little piece of this community joy, give us a call or text at (406) 897-3993. We’ll be selling pumpkins right off the farm truck! 🎃

Keeping the nutrient cycle moooving. 🐄💩🌱

Our cows graze the pastures, turning sunshine and grass into milk, and leaving behind nutrients that still have work to do.

After their manure and bedding have composted for a year or more, we spread that finished compost back onto the land. It returns organic matter and valuable nutrients to the soil, supports soil life, improves water retention, and helps grow the next round of healthy forage.

Grass feeds cows. Cows feed the compost pile. Compost feeds the soil. And healthy, nutrient-rich soil feeds more grass.

Around and around it goes. ♻️🌱

Just a little off the sides, please. 😂🐄

We keep our cows’ udders neatly clipped because long hair can collect mud, manure, bedding, and loose debris. A tidy udder is much easier to clean thoroughly before milking, and that’s just one more small step we take to ensure beautifully clean milk.

Is it dignified? Not especially. 😂

Is it practical? Absolutely. 👌🏻

Safe milk requires serious standards. The work itself does not always look serious, though. Sometimes it looks like giving bad haircuts before breakfast. 🥛✂️

🎃 The Meadowvale Pumpkin Patch is officially open! 🎃

This is our very first year, so we aren’t offering a full-blown pumpkin festival—just a simple, low-key visit to the farm, with homegrown pumpkins to choose from and plenty of cows, goats, and piggies to admire along the way.

We grew an assortment of unusual varieties alongside the familiar autumn favorites, with pumpkins for carving, decorating, stacking on the porch, or bringing a little harvest beauty indoors.

There is no admission charge. Pumpkins are priced by size:

🎃 Minis: $5 each or 3 for $12
🎃 Medium: $15
🎃 Large: $25
🎃 Giant: $40

The patch is open by appointment. Send us a message or call/text (406) 897-3993 to plan your visit.

Come pick a pumpkin, enjoy the view, and help us celebrate the first autumn harvest from our little patch. 🍂

Big news from the Farmstead. After many, MANY requests, it’s official…

We’re bringing Meadowvale to your doorstep. 🥛🥕🥩

We’ve been hearing from many of you that you value eating closer to home, and with the seasons. You’ve told us you’d love to get more of your family’s weekly groceries directly from the Farmstead. Now we can make that a little easier.

Order your weekly raw milk. Add a Pasture Box or Breakfast Box for the freezer. Snag a Harvest Box while the garden season lasts. Add on some cream or other dairy favorites. Put the staples you use regularly on subscription, or just order when it’s time to restock. We’ll bring your order right to your door. Easy as can be.

Meadowvale Doorstep is now open for Whitefish, Columbia Falls, and Kalispell area ZIP codes. There’s a $100 order minimum and a $10 flat delivery fee. Delivery is free on orders over $250.

Because we’re delivering in a large refrigerated truck, some outlying addresses or difficult driveways may be beyond what we can safely serve. If you’re unsure about your address, please reach out; we’re happy to talk it through.

Have a neighbor who’d enjoy food from the farm? Tell them about us, and you’ll receive a $25 credit after they place their first order. If several neighbors are interested, let us know! We’d love to explore a neighborhood buying club together.

Getting on board is simple. Hop onto our website, set up an account, and start ordering. Select home delivery at checkout.

We’re looking forward to bringing more of the Farmstead to your table!

This morning’s milk test results are in. 🥛🧫

Fresh bulk-tank milk:

• SPC: No detectable growth
• Coliforms: No detectable growth

Bottled milk, four days old:

• SPC: 2,000 CFU/mL
• Coliforms: No detectable growth

For comparison, the Raw Milk Institute’s standards call for rolling three-month averages below 5,000 CFU/mL for SPC and below 10 CFU/mL for coliforms. Both samples fall well within those standards, which is typical for us.

SPC is not a count of “bad bacteria.” It counts the microorganisms capable of growing under the test conditions, including harmless, neutral, and potentially beneficial bacteria.

No detectable growth in the fresh sample does not mean the entire tank was sterile. It means the bacterial population was so low that no colonies grew from the small sample tested. After four days, an initially tiny population can slowly reproduce and become measurable. An SPC of 2,000 CFU/mL after four days is very low and good to see.

Coliforms are a more specific indicator of milkhouse hygiene and possible environmental contamination. Although RAWMI’s target is a rolling average below 10 CFU/mL, our batch-release standard is stricter: no detectable coliform growth. If a batch shows any, we do not sell it.

We test every batch, hold it until the results are complete, and share those results openly because transparency should be ordinary when people trust you with their food.

Nothing unusual here. Just another clean batch and another good morning in the Meadowvale farm lab. 🙌🏻
