::: Press Release :::

At approximately 11:11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, Humboldt Bay Fire responded with three engines, one truck company, and two chief officers to a reported structure fire in the 6500 block of Third Street in Fields Landing.

While en route, firefighters were advised that all occupants had evacuated the residence, but several pets remained inside. Upon arrival, Engine 8112 reported smoke and fire showing from a single-story, single-family residence and initiated an interior fire attack. Truck 8181 arrived shortly afterward and conducted an interior search and vertical ventilation operations.

During the search, firefighters located seven dogs inside the residence. Two dogs had succumbed to the fire, while the remaining five were rescued and removed from the structure. Three of the rescued dogs required resuscitation efforts by firefighters. Two dogs were successfully resuscitated and reunited with their owners.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within approximately 20 minutes. There were no civilian injuries. One Humboldt Bay Fire firefighter sustained a minor injury, was treated at a local hospital, and was subsequently released back to duty.

Estimated property damage is approximately $150,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Humboldt Bay Fire personnel remained on scene for approximately two hours to fully extinguish the fire and complete operations.

Humboldt Bay Fire extends its appreciation to City Ambulance, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), the California Highway Patrol, and the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office for their assistance at the scene. Arcata Fire District and Samoa Peninsula Fire District provided coverage of Humboldt Bay Fire's response area while crews operated at the incident.

Humboldt Bay Fire recognizes the heartbreaking loss of family pets and extends its
sympathy to the residents affected by this fire.

All Humboldt Bay Fire apparatus are equipped with medical pet resuscitation equipment, and firefighters receive training in pet resuscitation. This equipment and training enable firefighters to provide lifesaving care to animals encountered during emergency incidents.

Sometimes the best deliveries are handmade. ❤️

Students from Ms. Warren’s first grade class at Alice Birney Elementary School created “HERO Cards” for people they admire and who help make our community a better place.

One student stopped by the station with her family to personally deliver the cards. While they were here, she got a closer look at the fire truck, tried on an air pack and learned a little more about the station, including how our crews use maps of the community with Battalion Chief Miller. 🚒

Thank you to Ms. Warren’s class for the thoughtful cards and for taking the time to think of us. We loved seeing their creativity and reading their kind messages.

And Elizabeth, we agree. Keeping you safe is a pretty important job. ❤️

Press Release
Structure Fire 2100 block of Broadway

On Monday, September 28, 2026, at 15:03 hours, Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the 2100 block of Broadway in Eureka. Humboldt Bay Fire responded with three engines, one ladder truck, and a Battalion Chief.

Engine 8113 was the first-arriving unit and initially found no smoke showing from the exterior of a four-story hotel. Upon investigation, Engine 8113 located a smoldering fire in the roof and wall adjacent to the first-floor interior swimming area. Access to the fire was limited, requiring crews to use power saws and hand tools to open portions of the roof and wall. Battalion 8104 arrived on scene and assumed Broadway Command, declaring an offensive fire attack. Incoming units were assigned to assist with fire attack, check for fire extension within the walls, conduct salvage operations, and remove smoke from the building. The fire caused light smoke inside the hotel. A full evacuation of hotel guests was not necessary due to the small size of the fire. Smoke conditions throughout the building were continuously monitored. Humboldt Bay Fire remained on scene for approximately 2 ½ hours.

Humboldt Bay Fire would like to thank Arcata Fire District and Samoa Fire for providing coverage in our jurisdiction during this incident.

An investigation was performed to find the cause and origin of the fire. The cause is still under investigation. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries

Humboldt Bay Fire would like to remind everyone to call 911 immediately if there is an emergency.
