Book Donation Update:

Because we've repeatedly received book donations with bedbugs, booklice, and other pests over the past week, we are placing a hold on all book donations until further notice. We want to keep our library, collection, and patrons safe, and we appreciate your understanding as we work through this.

If you would still like to support the library, monetary donations are always appreciated! You can also check out our wish list on our website to purchase books and other items we need. 💙

Thank you for thinking of the Evans City Public Library and for continuing to support us!

Hi everyone! Just a quick reminder about dropping things off at the library.

We’ve had several boxes left at the library that unfortunately contained literal trash and even pest-infested items. While we really do appreciate everyone thinking of the library when they have books or other items they no longer want, we can’t accept everything that gets dropped off.

Starting now, all boxes and donations need to be checked by a staff member before they are brought into the library. Please do not leave boxes outside the building or drop things off when we are closed.

Our library only has one garbage bin, and when that bin fills up in one day because people are dumping unwanted items and trash at the library, it becomes a real problem and it’s not fair to our library or the people who use it.

This is really just about keeping our staff, patrons, books, and building safe. We don’t want to bring pests or garbage into the library, especially after all the work we’ve put into revamping our collection.

Also, please keep in mind that leaving garbage, unwanted items, or boxes of materials we don’t accept outside the library can be considered littering or illegal dumping and may be subject to local and state laws.

And just a reminder, we do have cameras around the building, including outside. So please don’t leave things at the doors or around the building thinking no one will know where they came from.

We really do appreciate the donations and support from our community; we just ask that you please check with us first!

Thanks!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

A strange and powerful object has been discovered…

A CARD.

A LIBRARY CARD.

And with this card, you may enter not one…
not two…
but NINE LIBRARIES.

“NINE?!”

NINE.

And if the book you seek is not within our walls?

FEAR NOT.

For The Man in the Van shall travel the land FOUR DAYS A WEEK, carrying books from library to library like some sort of extremely wholesome medieval quest.

“Bring me the book!”

“Which book, my lord?”

“THE ONE FROM THE OTHER LIBRARY!”

***dramatic van noises***

And the best part?

THE EVANS CITY LIBRARY CARD COSTS NOTHING.

NOT ONE GOLD COIN.
NOT ONE SHILLING.
NOT EVEN THREE SILVER PIECES.

It is FREE.

Books. Movies. Audiobooks. Magazines. All sorts of wonderful things.

And yet, there are still people wandering the countryside without one.

WHY?!

Come to the library and get yours. It takes about five minutes, costs absolutely nothing, and suddenly you have access to 9 LIBRARIES and more books than you could possibly cram into your house.

ONE CARD.
NINE LIBRARIES.
FOUR DAYS OF BOOK DELIVERY.
ZERO GOLD COINS.

Your quest awaits.

Now go forth, brave reader.

AND GET THY LIBRARY CARD! It's national library card sign up month!!!

Disclaimer: The Man in the Van is not, in fact, a medieval knight. Please do not attempt to joust with the van.

We're now collecting used books for our upcoming book sale! Your donations help support our growing community ❤️

Thinking of donating? Please read our book policy below.

We cannot accept items with mold, insect infested, water or cigarette smoke damage, missing covers, writing inside, or loose pages... these will be discarded.

Please do not donate books if you currently have fleas in your home. This helps us protect our library, volunteers, and staff, and other donated books from the spread of fleas.

We’re unable to take textbooks, manuals, magazines, dictionaries, or thesauri.

Donated books should NEVER be dropped off outside the library or left after hours of operation (even if left in bags or boxes). This can cause mold and mildew to grow, which can spread to other books and surfaces in the library causing irreparable damage. Mold can also create health concerns for our staff and patrons.

All donated items must be in good condition no matter what their age! Remember, our sale is only as good as what we have to sell!

If you’d like to donate, simply bring your items to the front desk, and our staff will be glad to assist you with drop off details.

Thank you for helping us keep our book sale safe and enjoyable for everyone. And thank you for supporting our community and your local library! 💙
