The Flame of Hope officially passed through Evanston this past weekend, and a huge thank you to our incredible local law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes who ran side-by-side as the Guardians of the Flame. We are so proud to support the Law Enforcement Torch Run as it makes its way to the Special Olympics Illinois State Summer Games! Let’s keep cheering them on!

Right Turns on Red: Look Twice, Turn Once
Turning right on red can help traffic flow, but only when it’s done safely and legally. Always treat it as a two-step decision: stop first, then carefully evaluate before turning.
-Come to a complete stop at the red light.
-Check for pedestrians in the crosswalk before moving.
-Look for bicyclists traveling through the intersection.
-Yield to all oncoming traffic with the right-of-way.
Illinois Law: Under 625 ILCS 5/11-306, drivers facing a steady red signal must stop and remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown. Right turns on red are permitted unless otherwise posted, but drivers must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and other traffic lawfully within the intersection or crosswalk.
A safe turn is a patient turn. Take the extra second to make sure the way is truly clear.

All roads lead back to Evanston—even when we’re out in Rolling Meadows!
Rain or shine, our team had an amazing time connecting with the community on Central Road for the Rolling Meadows Block Party! We officially rolled out our new patrol ride at the Vehicle Show. While we didn't bring home the "Best Vehicle" trophy this time, we definitely won the day by representing Evanston loud and proud.
We spent our evening:
[ ] Spreading critical awareness about senior safety
[ ] Strengthening community engagement
[ ] Networking with our fellow local police departments
[ ] Soaking up love from all the Evanstonians living in or visiting the area!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, check out the new ride, and show your support!

Ready to dive into summer! Evanston’s Police & Fire Department Marine Unit is officially rescue-ready for the warm weather ahead. Look out for the Marine 21 rescue boat and wave runners keeping our Lake Michigan shoreline safe all season long. Give our local first responders a wave if you see them out on the water training!

We made it!
The Evanston and Lincolnwood officers participating in the IPMBA Mountain Bike Certification Course successfully completed the physically challenging tasks required to earn their certification. We're proud of everyone who pushed through and got it done.
Along the way, we also wrote a few BLTs (Bike Lane Tickets) after getting "sandwiched" into bike lanes by parked vehicles. Two tickets were issued during training—one ticket in the downtown area and one ticket on Dodge Avenue. A few warnings were given while we were riding through the city: riding bike in the wrong direction of the bike lane and vehicle parking in the bike lane.
While we enjoy the BLT joke, the reason behind it is serious. Bike lanes exist to provide a safe space for cyclists, and vehicles parked or stopped in those lanes force riders into traffic, creating dangerous situations for everyone.
Please be mindful of bicyclists and help us make bike safety a priority. Whether you're driving, biking, walking, or rolling, we all share responsibility for keeping our roads safe and respecting one another.
And most importantly... please don't get a BLT.
Keep the bike lanes clear!
A special thank you to our partners at Lincolnwood PD. It was a pleasure training alongside you.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of retired EPD Records Supervisor Denise Conley on June 2, 2026. Please join us in keeping Denise, Officer Justin Conley, and the entire Conley family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Denise dedicated her career to the Evanston Police Department, ensuring excellence in records management, legal compliance, and staff supervision. Her expertise in state records retention and crime reporting requirements made a vital, lasting impact on the EPD and the City of Evanston. Her legacy proudly continues through her son, Officer Justin Conley, 16+ Years of EPD Service. Currently assigned to the Traffic Unit, many in Evanston know Officer Conley both from his time on the force and growing up around the department. He consistently goes above and beyond to honor our community, organizing dignified funeral processions for fallen officers, firefighters, and citizens, as well as supporting ETHS sporting escorts.
The family has advised that services may take place around July 18, 2026. EPD will share additional updates and confirmed details as they become available. Please keep the Conley family in your hearts as they navigate this profound loss.

On Saturday, May 30, our Community Policing Unit hosted the inaugural "Paddle & Connect" event at the James Park Outdoor Pickleball Courts!
This free event brought residents of all skill levels together for a day of fun, fitness, and positive vibes. Coordinated by CPU Officers Cox and Riley, the goal was simple: promote wellness, strengthen community bonds, and connect with our neighbors in a relaxed, fun setting outside of emergency situations.
The Evanston Fire Department also joined the fun, providing safety resources and medical support to keep everyone safe.
Much respect to Harry Ross, Nancy Berte and the Senior Pickleball Community for the guidance and the behind the scene help in making the ideal to reality. A massive shoutout to C&W Ice Cream for fueling us with delicious food and DJ's Joose & Rock for keeping the energy high all afternoon!
This event wouldn't have been possible without our incredible community partners. Thank you for your generous donations and support:
McGaw YMCA
Tennis Ballerz
Evanston Imprintables
First Northern Credit Union
Jiffy L**e
Sam’s Club
.. and many more!
It was awesome seeing our community smiling, playing, and connecting with local first responders. Thank you to everyone who came out!
