The Evanston Police Department has launched the “R.U.O.K.” (Are You Okay?) program, a proactive initiative aimed at ensuring the well-being of seniors living alone in Evanston. In collaboration with the Evanston Fire Department, this program seeks to provide regular check-ins and assistance to seniors who may be in need.
How the program works
Weekly Check-Ins: Seniors who sign up for the program will receive a weekly phone call from a Police Department representative.
Emergency Assistance: If, during a phone call, a senior indicates that they are not okay and require assistance, a trained Evanston Police Department representative will assess the situation. If emergency services are deemed necessary, the Evanston Fire Department will be dispatched to the location.
Access to Social Services: Beyond emergency situations, the program also offers assistance in connecting seniors with social services. The Department's Community Relations Unit will facilitate appropriate referrals.
