Did you know Evansville’s aviation history dates back nearly a century? On October 19, 1928, thousands gathered to celebrate the opening of the city’s first airport, then named the Evansville Municipal Airport. This marked an exciting new chapter in local transportation, and has since played an important role in connecting Evansville to the rest of the country.

Beyond providing somewhere for planes to land and take off, the airport has helped support local business, tourism, and economic growth in our city. From the early days of aviation to modern air travel, Evansville Regional Airport remains an important gateway. What began as a milestone in Evansville history continues to help move us forward!
